Among TRUE CONSERVATIVES, NEWT TAKES IT AT 46%, ROMNEY LAST AT 11%

I came home and was totally bummed by the results so far. I looked for anything on FR to cheer me up. Finally I succumbed and went to the former-other favorite website Drudge and begrudgingly clicked on the 'Landslide' article - blah blah blah and there, at the very bottom - I found my glimmer of hope: In a positive sign for Gingrich, exit polls showed evangelical voters trending for the former House speaker. The exit polls showed Gingrich with 40 percent among that group, and Romney with 36 percent.

But the margin was wider for Romney among seniors and Hispanics. Half of the seniors polled were supporting Romney, while 35 percent backed Gingrich. Romney also led Gingrich 56-29 percent among Hispanic voters, the largest minority in the state, exit polling showed.

Voters overwhelmingly went for Romney among those who said winning in November is the most important quality in a Republican nominee. But for voters who valued "true conservative" credentials as their top quality, Gingrich led with 46 percent, followed by Santorum at 26 percent and Paul at 16 percent. Among those voters, Romney was last with 11 percent.

Oh for heaven’s sake - it’s only one state. There are 46 more to go and Newt will win many of those.

This Florida vote would have helped Newt for sure, but it's not over. I am with Newt, take this all the way to the convention. The GOP-e, Rove, Morris and the belt way will tell you it's over, but if Newt can take enough delegates to keep FlipFlop Moderate Romney, who lost 17 races out of 22 in his life time as a politician, from getting the nomination, it will go to the convention. Santorum hasn't left nor has Paul, so why should Newt get out?

Also, Romney doubled down and played dirty Ted Kennedy negative ads to win Florida. He learned from the best while he was Taxachusetts Gov. This is far from over, let it continue and lets not give Romney a free ride. Lets make him spend his money.

Santorums numbers are way down. He won Iowa on a fluke and he got a free pass. The other candidates are not running ads or attacking him. He is a huge earmark KING..even voted to fund the National Endowment for the Arts and increase their funding. He was named as porker of the month by citizens against govt waste and they are a taxpayer watchdog group that ususally name dems. NO to Little Ricky..he should go home to his daughter and family. GO NEWT!

(Same results for Gingrich, I expect.)

And Newt isn’t a Washington lizard? He is a huge slimeball, and I say that as a Georgia resident now. People here would have to think before pissing on Newt if he was on fire. The people who know him best.

The same slug who sat on a park bench with San Fran Nan, who attacked Ryans budget? Tell me real conservatives are not putting their hopes in a Freddie Mac “consultant” who profited as the housing market guttered. A philandering bore who spouts every “moon colony” idea that he thinks of.

Help get Santorum back in the fight, don’t settle for this piece of work.

[It’s over. If Gingrich can’t win a major state like Florida, he won’t win the nomination. And I voted for Gingrich]

It is not over. In 1976 Reagan didn't start winning till N. Carolina. He came within a handful of votes of winning. Newt has already won S. Carolina. He needs to get back on message. Economic growth, reduce debt, anti Obama.

He spent too much time on defense. Let the Super Pacs handle the negative stuff. When unfairly accused, explain it once quickly, then laugh it off kinda like Reagan, there they go again with the inaccurate statements, and pivot to get to the message.

Rush knows in his heart that he is going to have a hard time convincing most of his listeners to vote for Romney.

But he’s an talk show host/entertainer first and a Conservative voter second.....hard to tell what he’ll do. But he is already acting strangely.

Do you think lying trumps what you call cheating? What about Santorum who has lied about Newt - what about his cheating his PA constituents who voted for him that they no longer wanted him - he divorced himself from what got him elected, his words. Cheating comes in all forms.

I’ve been a Florida resident for 27 years. Florida was a closed primary. Open only to registered Republicans and Independents. With a deadline for those first registering or changing party affiliation. Yes we have the motor voter law and all you need to show is your drivers license for identification but there is one more step in the voting process before you get to the booths and that is the license data is checked against a voter registration database.

I admired Hume and thought he was the best. I had no idea he would do this. I have never seen the animation or tone of voice before that I did each time he was bashing Newt. It was awful. They got worse each time. Bret stopped him and made him sputter the night he said to him following a Newt bash, “and what do you have to say to all those who are filling my email that you are in the tank for Romney?”

I'm looking at this "TRUE CONSERVATIVES" poll and I'm not sure how anyone can expect Gingrich to win when his strongest support--his STRONGEST support--is a minority of a minority.

The math just don't add up.

“For voters who valued “true conservative” credentials as their top quality, Gingrich led with 46 percent...”

That’s the good news for Newt. The bad news of course is that “true conservatives” only make up 30-40% of the population as a whole. And Newt doesn’t have much appeal outside that group.

Well, I agree something is going on in his life. Limbaugh seems distracted or depressed or just really concerned about America.
I do not care what he says or what he recommends I will never vote for Romney. There is not a dimes worth of difference between Romney and BHO.
