Filing has closed in West Virginia.
The Maloney/Tomblin rematch for Governor is on.
In the Senate race we’re consigned to running John Raese again, keeping that race a 2nd tier possibility.
In happier news it looks like we’ve got real candidates for all the other statewide offices as well.
In the first CD Freshman David McKinley (R) avoided getting a serious challenger.
In CD 2 Shelly Moore Capito has a couple primary challengers, one of them a State Delegate.
In the 3rd, Rahall got 3 Republican challengers, none of them sound very strong.
Shelly Moore Capito is a typical establishment Republican. Her ACU rating is 71 lifetime. In the primary, I will vote for Mark Levin’s proverbial organge juice can before I vote for her.
I know of Bias and Lester, but who is the third?
The 3rd candidate may the strongest, freshman State Del. Rick Snuffer. He was the nominee for the seat in 2004, though he lost by 30 points.

Thank you. That is really helpful information.

AGAIN!? Geesh, the guy's track record in U.S. Senate races is 0-3, he wants to try a FOURTH time? John Raese is turning into the West Virginia version of Jim Oberweis and Steve L-O-N-E-G-A-N. Some freepers thought he'd be competative last time around with no incumbent Senator, but Manchin beat him by a 10-point margin. Admittedly, Machin was a popular Governor (and WV Republicans were their own worst enemy by continually talking up Machin as an "honorable, conservative Democrat"), but after 3 losses he needs to give someone else a chance. West Virginia voters probably have Raese fatigue and I can't say I blame them.
I know Shelley Moore Capito won't run (and as another freeper noted, given her RINOish record I don't think we want to her to run), but since Raese has never held office I can't imagine we'd do worse. Hiram Lewis should have been the nominee against Byrd 6 years ago, might as well give him a shot this time. We tried Raese repeatedly and it failed.
Not to mention the dishonorable bastards at the NRA giving him a knee-pad endorsement.
I let my NRA membership lapse after that abominable episode.
I’ve long been critical of the NRA for their footsly playing with the rats, I wouldn’t give then a thin dime if I had a mountain of them.
As for for Raese, thing is, no one else was interested so we’ve lucky to even have him.
Paltry bench in WV.
The biggest name, Capito, could have trouble statewide, not being pro-life. Obviously she has a case of the Tommy Thompsons. I expect her to run when/if Rockefeller ever retires (if no too strong rat runs, she wants an easy race).
Given his failure last time (and it wasn’t all that close, after he’d been leading the polls) I’m not optimistic Raese can win. I remember my disappointment on election night ‘10, it was one of the first Senate races called and it harbinged (if that’s not a word it should be) the rats keeping control. Maybe if the POTUS ticket wins the state by 20 points it could pull him across.
