I don’t think so.

I’m sure Newt could have thought of something to say that still fulfilled his “social” obligation, but didn’t condone anything. And he certainly could have come out and said, “Last night when I phoned Governor Romney after the results were in, I told him personally what I’m telling you: I will go to the convention if need be.”

Or whatever.

I’m just saying there was a way to handle it that wouldn’t have had Gingrich playing to type.

Well, then forget about ever winning the White House again.

We don’t have to like each other. But we do have to realize that there is, as yet, not one faction within the GOP/conservative movement that can elect a President on its own.

James Madison set it up this way, hard as it is!

Yes, but it doesn’t depend on the candidate, any more than the tradition of congratulating the winning QB depends on whether or not he’s a great guy.

It just is what it is.

And a smart pol would have used it to his advantage, rather than disadvantage.

It has nothing to do with how Romney conducted himself. In fact, that would have made it even more of a win for Gingrich had he been what’s traditionally been considered a gentleman about it.

You really don't get it do you?

In this instance it would make Newt look weak and give the impression that ABSOLUTLEY ANYTHING can be said about Newt and that's OK with him. After all, it's just a campaign right and all's fair...

Newt was willing to keep this about issues and Obomney took it right to the gutter and....

Oh never mind. I don't expect you to understand. Newt should just tuck his manhood between his legs and give Obamney a limp wristed handshake and tell him "Good one Mitt!" and just move on to the next whoop-in right?

Would that have made you "FEEL" better?

Its not a tradition during primaries only during the real election....you conceed the election to the one that is president....see how easily journalists can start a food fight...

Why in the world would you attack ME over my observations about how things are playing out there?

That’s just dumb.

Anyway, look. Newt lost the female vote in Florida by 22 POINTS.

Sorry, but that means (whether one agrees with it or not), essentially, that he’s come off to a whole bunch of women as some kind of a jerk. Failing to do the traditional/obligatory “post-game handshake,” regardless of what one actually says to one’s opponent, plays into that view that this is a man who is a jerk.

That’s not my opinion of Newt, that’s my analysis of the politics of this situation.

And, as proven here and in the larger media, failure to do the “post-game handshake” causes people to spend time talking about what a jerk you are. Which also plays into a perception that is already a demonstrable (by 22 points) problem for Gingrich.

So all I’m suggesting here is that whatever one might see as the upside of Gingrich failing to do this, the downside is worse.

It was a small thing to do, yet it is the type of thing that can EXPONENTIALLY harden the perception among some that this man is a jerk.

Was it really worth that? I don’t think so.

And all your mumbo-jumbo about this being about my “feelings” is just embarrassing. Stick to the substantive points and attempt to defend your views without adolescent ad hominen attacks, please. Thanks.
