Gingrich Makes a Justifiable Call Not to Call
Yahoo News ^ | Feb 1, 2012 | By Bob Bartleby

COMMENTARY | Former House Speaker and presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich isn't conceding anything. Despite that, according to Fox News, Mitt Romney routed Gingrich in Tuesday's Florida Republican primary election, Gingrich isn't conceding the race. "We are going to contest every place, and we are going to win, and we will be in Tampa as the nominee in August," Gingrich said. Not only was the former Speaker not congratulatory in his speech following the polls closing in Florida, but according to CNN, he also didn't phone Romney to concede and congratulate him on his win, a long-standing tradition among rival candidates.

While some might question Gingrich's choice to ignore protocol, I'm left scratching my head and wondering why he would even be expected to make such a humiliating call to a man he clearly loathes. "We're not that stupid, and Mitt's not that clever," quipped Gingrich earlier in the week, according to HT Politics.

And it's not just Gingrich's behavior toward Romney that I've observed, there's also the fact that according to the Free Republic, 92 percent of ads in Florida have been negative instead of substantive.

Florida was a knock-down, drag out, bloody punching match in which the winner outspent the loser by a considerable stash of cash. The notion the loser would come out of the fight with any words for his opponent other than an instruction manual in the finer art of self-copulation is unrealistic, and frankly would have been completely disingenuous...

I wouldnt call someone who was just going to crow either...

Being gracious in defeat is one thing...

being gracious in “victory” is also important...

Romney lacks the manners to be humble...

If Willard weren’t a lying bag of excrement, there’d be no rifts.

I’m trying to remember if Willard called Newt in SC. I don’t think so.

Romney’s Rino rift is a bridge too far for the Newt or any candidate to overcome with a phone call. Life in the US is not business as usual.

Of course we now have a couple of posters on another thread saying that we are now voting for obama if we do not vote for Romney. Never saw that coming, sarc>

Romney and the establishment over played their cards due to their ignorance to the base.
When they need the base like in my state they think we will all come out and vote for their guy , yea right after what they have done and acted.

I’;ve had it with Romney , he went way too far, the attacks by FOX, Coulter etc will not be forgotten, hell the establishment was dragging out Dole of all people

Nana
Your tagline is very true
I spent some time up in MA and many of those who called themselves republicans are liberals down here.
Sadly we have had many move to the middle and the southern part of our state and they tipped it for Romney

Calling the winner to congratulate him is a longstanding traidtion and one rooted in “healing” the various rifts, at least on a personal level, once a nominee is chosen.

I agree that Romney went too far.

I was willing to hold my nose and vote for that despicable Romney if he wins the nomination, but I swear I just don’t know if I can. It will feel (to me) just EXACTLY as though I was voting for obama. *shudder*

He has shown his mettle, and he is a pathetic, vicious, lying, mean, intellectually dishonest manipulator. He gloats also. I can’t bear him.

same for me.

Being in this state and seeing how Newt was attacked and even after NEWT said lets call for no more attacks Romney just ignored him at the debate.

Romney cannot win on a republican issue because he has never done anything republican let alone conservative so he just lies and attacks and then gets his dogs out to attack with him.
I’ve had it with him and seeing him saying we need to unite against obama made me sick.
He seriously thinks after the way he has acted we shoudl all forget it so he can get to the white house.

The establishment would never support Newt or Cain etc and i see no reason to back their guy now.

“It simply respects a tradition that has been helpful in bringing together the party after the race is over.”

I disagree, JAG.

Why in the world would we want “come together” with a bunch of elitist insects who don’t want us, hate us and called us every name in the book? What these DC pigs are doing is not creating a path for long-term friendship.

Both Bushes insulted us, as did McCain and now Romney.

We have, as a divorce lawyer might say, irreconcilable differences.

I would rather have a GOP controlled congress opposing Obama at every turn than a GOP controlled congress going along with Romney’s liberal agenda.

If Romney is the nominee and if we don't have another presidential candidate to vote for via the independent route, we could very well lose the house and fail to take over the senate. People need someone to vote FOR. They won't show up merely to vote against, at least not enough to make the difference.

That would had been a phone call to be listening in on hehe. Hi, Mitt, I see you won Florida by using all of that money to get your lies about me. See in you the other states—.

At my polling place, I saw more Newt signs (about 100 yds back which is the appropriate thing to do) Zero, for Romney. The poll workers heard a lot of complaints. They are not suppose to comment or say anything. Six of us were complaining about Romney saying to them the party was fractured. We would not back him in the general. Two supporters of Ron Paul hippies (like the Wall Street gang) tried to vote as a democrat for Ron Paul. Boy, when they checked his and her DL to see they were not registered republicans, they threw a hissy fit. Many of us laughed. They would not give it up until the deputy (off duty) came by to ask what he could do.

Did Romney call after South Carolina?

He says he did.

“Newt didn’t call after Iowa or New Hampshire,” Gov. Romney revealed. “I called him after South Carolina, his win there, but he didn’t call last night. The other candidates all called. I don’t know. I guess Speaker Gingrich doesn’t have our phone number.”source
