At this point, Santorum’s only role is to make sure Romney gets the nomination.

Santorum is the hero of the RINO establishment.

Santorum is the logical one to drop out, and consider his options at a future time.

He’d probably be better than Paul or Greengrich IMHO... But I wish someone with enough resources and excitement would still step up to the plate!!! (and not Christie, either)

Santorum is not only the clear alternative to Romney, he is the only alternative to Romney. Gingrich has a virtually impossible shot at clinching the nomination (see below link) besides the sobering fact that in a diverse state like FL (a key battleground state that Obama carried in 2008), he lost among all major demographics and suffered a massive 20-point deficit among female workers. And Santorum is telegenic, has mid-western roots, is Catholic, and could haul in Reagan Democrats. Besides, as favorite son, he will carry PA.

Well he’s got my vote and no he’s not perfect but is my third and final choice.

This is a sick game, and conservatives are being played by the establishment, Fox News, Limbaugh, Drudge and possibly Santorum himself.

Santorum looks better than he would if he were on the receiving end of some of the incoming which was directed at Newt. When one isn’t attacked, he can appear to be above the fray.

Santorum is definitely better than Romney, but the reality is not quite what the more recent perception of him has been.

Geeze - Santorum couldn’t even bother himself to go back to FL during the voting. Instead he knew that he had NO chance, and so he had drifted off somewhere else to begin fresh. Newt at least hung in and faced the music, gave a positive speech afterward.

Why is Santorum, who seems to be a nice enough man, (if you can overlook much about his record) running around campaigning when even he admits he hasn’t any chance UNLESS Newt drops out? And, ah, he knows Newt WON’T drop out.

Why?

Yes he is. Santorum is the ONLY viable option that conservatives have. Newt went into Fl the heavy favorite and he lost it big time. Why? Because he went ballistic when confronted with Mitt's negative ads. He couldn't control himself and made a fool of himself. His last two debate performances were pathetic and that stunt he tried to pull on Wolf Blitzer blew up in his face because he was being asked about charges he actually made. He went to the well one too many times. My question is if he can't handle Mitt...and he CLEARLY CAN'T!!! How in the hell is he going to handle obama and the rats and the MSM??? He won't. he'll self destruct right before our eyes, just like he did as Speaker as clinton whipped his butt. Newt as our candidate is a disaster waiting to happen!

Newt may be the choice of the base of the GOP. It would be generous to say that that would be 50% of the GOP which is 35% of the electorate. That's all he can hope to draw in the general. He won't win women. He won't win independents. Do that math...he can't win! He currently has 60% negatives. Good God almighty! And people say Santorum is fronting for Romney.

Can Santorum carry Pennsylvania?

If memory serves, they already gave him the boot.

Ed says what I’ve been arguing in comments for the past two days, regarding polling numbers and relative strengths. He probably said it better, or at least is a better vessel to possibly convey this message.

What in the world has happened to the American people? With the people in America today the forefathers would have stood alone and lost. Not even 6% of the delegates have been allotted and Gingrich takes second in Florida and they are ready to throw in the towel? People switch candidates on one comment made rather than a studied consideration of the candidate’s positions. I fear for this countries future.

Santorum is a nice guy and surely has some admirable qualities but in no way is this country going to elect him in the general. His position on pork spending is in no way conservative. His support of Specter showed a underbelly that is not something conservatives are going to forget. While we on the right agree with him on most of his social issues this country is not ready to turn that drastically to the right in one election. He has no chance.

Gingrich takes his campaign to Nevada, the state with the most foreclosures in the nation, where he has three days to explain what he did for that $1.6 million that mortgage giant Freddie Mac paid him.

A LIE. The Gingrich Group was paid that over a 10 year period. Newt got considerably less... $25,000/yr according to his released contracts.

In Missouri, where the next Republican primary will take place (next Tuesday)...

Not so unlike 2011 straw polls, MEANINGLESS. Missouri delegates are actually decided in March by a caucus.

The Mitwitts at Hot Air are pushing Santorum because they know he will continue to split the conservative vote, thereby helping their precious Romney.
