Paul: Immigration not solved by barbed wire, guns [US overreacted to 9/11, Latinos Jews in Reich]
Boston Globe ^ | 2-1-12

LAS VEGAS—Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul outlined his views on immigration Wednesday, saying he favors a compassionate policy that doesn't rely on "barbed-wire fences and guns on our border."

Paul spoke to several dozen people organized by Hispanics in Politics, Nevada's oldest Hispanic community group. The Texas congressman has scheduled several days of campaigning in Nevada before the state's caucuses Saturday.

Paul went into much greater detail on immigration policy than he has at most of his campaign stops. He typically steers clear of discussing rights for specific groups of people, insisting that his libertarian-leaning views apply to everyone as individuals.

But in Nevada, which is 26 percent Hispanic, Paul outlined an immigration policy far outside the Republican mainstream.

Paul blasted politicians who blame immigrants for causing the country's economic problems. He compared the situation to Nazi Germany's targeting of Jews in the 1930s.

Also, Ron Paul on immigration reform: Americans ‘overreacted’ to 9/11

And from the thread, Ron Paul says Latinos have become 'scapegoats' (just like Jews in Nazi Germany)

David Axelrod must love what comes out of the mouths of GOP candidates.

A twofer here, he can use the commentary to condemn the GOP's position on immigration. It's Paul comparing America to the Reich, not some leftist nutball. Yes, I know they're the same.

The Holocaust analogy is absurd, but also useful. Here we have a GOP candidate stating that an illegal immigrant to the US is the same as a German Jew, stripped of his job, his pension, his citizenship and murdered. Paul is ethically challenged, that's a generous assessment. No one is suggesting killing illegal immigrants. No one is suggesting stripping them of their citizenship, whatever nation that might be in. I recognize many people don't recognize it, but Jews see that comparison and assume they're dealing with a party which devalues Jewish life.

Paul's a jerk, but at least when he's pandering to druggies, prostitutes and now tip earners he's not supplying Obama with general election ammo.

Americans ‘overreacted’ to 9/11

I guess if he had been in politics in 1941 (wasn't he?) he would have said Americans overreacted then too.

Sorry, left out the quote

I believe Hispanics have been used as scapegoats, to say, they're the problem instead of being a symptom maybe of a problem with the welfare state. In Nazi Germany they had to have scapegoats to blame and they turned on the Jews.
Congressman Ron Paul

I should also note that 9/11 has nothing to do with illegal immigration on our southern border. Other than infiltration by Iranian sponsored groups like Hizbollah, of course.

It just amazes me how quick Republicans cater to the liberal line regarding immigration! It surely has to do with future election prospects I guess.

I thought I had finally found a good conservative Republican regarding taxes, spending, and size of government. Well I have to admit I’m wrong again!

Geez, another compassionate Republican looking for Mexican votes. Dang, I always thought that the Mexican group was just as involved in law and order, border protection, drug interdiction, etc. as the rest of America. Guess I was either very wrong.

Ryan can go the way of other liberal Republicans (do I really need to say where)... Geez, it’s getting really hard to vote Republican these days - where is our third party when we need them?

these people who say we overreacted to 9/11 are way beyond any reason. To add his comparison to the Reich and Jews in Nazi Germany is way beyond the pale as well.

Ron Paul is a fool. Any nation that does not secure its borders will not be a nation for long.

"Paul blasted politicians who blame immigrants for causing the country's economic problems. "

Yeah; that's right....all their education, free medical care, food stamps, welfare, etc., etc., while paying NO TAXES is GREAT....we should open the borders EVEN MORE....

He needs to go back to the Mother Ship, as he's certainly been there before.

Ask the American Indian what happens when you don’t control immigration.

So, if barbed wire and guns don’t work, how about mines and H&I fires?

So this fool thinks that a German-born Jew, who had their OWN government turn on them and persecute them is the same thing as a government fighting to thwart the illegal invasion of their country by those who use the resources which are set-aside for the citizens of that country?

Is his brain not able to comprehend the difference between Germans killing German-Jews and ILLEGALS invading American soil?

Ron Paul reminds me of a character right out of the movie “Idiocracy”.

The thing that bothers me about him is the number of young people that support him.

Young people tend to grow up, if they didn’t John Kerry and Jane Fonda would be ruling over the Woodstock nation. Bless those whose defence of our nation denyed them the chance to grow up.

Yes. He wouldn't care much about French, Polish, Russian born Jews either. I guess they're all illegals now.

I don't like Paul, I think he's morally challenged, and an embarassment to the Republican Party. Sadly an embarassment that plays into undeserved stereotypes of bigotry. But some of his stupidity still surprises me.

Won’t happen. Settle for a fence, though I don’t know who will build it. Mines, Princess Di would hate you, me too. Common sense in a way, but might hurt the animals. I’d settle for enforcement and Everify. And I’d give a guest worker program, though with no citizenship path. If employed illegals were suddenly employed guest workers, with US employment rights, the demand for their labor would drop significantly.
