Komen apologizes for 'recent decisions,' pledges to continue funding Planned Parenthood
Dallas Morning News ^ | 2/3/2012 | Tom Benning

Komen for the Cure just released the following statement from Nancy Brinker and the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

I;ve donated to the Komen fund, substantially, for the past three years and that will now come to a screeching halt...just because they caved. I, in a way, feel bad because they do good work for cancer patients.

I just sent them $50 last night. I am all for curing breast cancer but I don’t want one penny going for abortion. Oh well, I guess that will be my first and last donation.

not surprised here...why did they ever give in the first place?

they won't get a penny from me (except govt tax funds I guess)

never have

if you look at who runs Komen, it looks like a Geffen-Speilberg meets Harold Simmon’s pissed off daughter's lawn party in Highland Park...ripe with lefty socially radical liberals from urban areas...nearly all pro abort women apparently

why do these people always take the reins of foundations that are supposed to do good?

I mean can one not advance the defeat of breast cancer without having to pay up to the abortion providers...this whole ruse that Planned Parenthood does anything but abortions and birth control pills is pure crap dreamed up to legitimize them and it's a joke

and now here we are about to nominate a GOP candidate every bit as pro abort action wise as Obama

these are dark days folks

if you care...some here do not...you can find them quietly on bash Newt threads

Rush spreading the word across the radio waves about the Komen-Planned Parenthood relationship (which continues, unfortunately) now. Good!

48 hours ago, any pro-lifer expressing a lack of faith in Komen's alleged divorce from Planned Parenthood would have been crucified...

...by other pro-lifers.

"Oh well, I guess that will be my first and last donation."

Ask for your money back, or stop payment on the check.

This definitely goes down in marketing history as an EPIC PR FAIL.

Time will tell. I heard on the news yesterday that PP reported private donations had SOARED because of the original Komen announcement. No doubt Komen received quite a few donations from pro-lifers who now regret doing so.

So, both Komen and PP raked in the money for a few days. Now that Komen put things back the way they were, the baby-killing crowd will likely reward them. And, the pro-lifers gave when they otherwise wouldn't have.

"Epic fail"? No, I suspect this was another New Coke type of PR stunt. And, it worked beautifully (unless you're an unborn baby).

Every pro-lifer who was duped into sending money to Komen should immediately seek a refund.

If anyone wants to know where they CAN donate, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, I believe, does not support any murderous organizations.

FYI. I avoid the American Cancer Society because it supports the destruction of human embryos for research. ACS also refuses to discuss oral contraceptives as carcinogens or the link between breast cancer & abortion.

In my opinion, they’re just as evil.

Too many women are for the killing of their children.

Quite true.

We can fight this through the age old, and conservative method of competition. Does anyone know of a Pro-Life Organization that provides reproductive health services and breast cancer screening for the poor that we can donate to. If we direct dollars there, PP would flounder and die.

they had one heck of a fundraiser for PP this week. Glad I didn’t give them any money ( glad they caved before the weekend, as they would have had some of my money then).

No doubt Komen received quite a few donations from pro-lifers who now regret doing so.

And why did pro-lifers donate?

Komen never stopped funding PP, they simply announced that they were going to in most areas.

They never acted on principle, but only to stay out of Congressional investigation.

Sure glad I held off on donating. No donations to fight breast cancer. Ever.

Does that group actively hide the research showing the abortion-breast cancer link and/or the mechanism by which first-trimester abortion causes cancer?

Yeah, that’s why I don’t contribute to ACS also.

Too bad they caved, but at least they admitted to providing funding to PP. Maybe it will enlighten the ones who are ignorant to this issue.
