Air Force to cut 10,000 airmen, shift aircraft

The Air Force on Friday detailed plans to cut the service by nearly 10,000 active, National Guard and Reserve airmen next year, as part of a broad move to downsize and shift capabilities around the country to be better prepared for wars of the future.

More than half of the personnel cuts, and much of the aircraft and other equipment moves, will be borne by the Air Guard, triggering criticism from the National Guard Association.

The Air Force said the service cannot absorb any further cuts in active duty forces because that would limit their ability to respond to multiple crises.

Overall, about 3,900 active duty, 5,100 Air Guard and 900 Air Force reserves would be cut in the next year.

Is this a result of the so called “Super Committee” not being able to come up with budget cuts? (Although O is already calling for another debt ceiling increase.)

CLOWARD-PIVEN full speed ahead!

Perhaps they are getting the military ready for war against the Tea Partiers, Chistians, Jews, etc.. Look who’s in charge.

The $1.2 trillion that is supposed to automatically occur if the super committee could not come up with a plan are supposed to translate into $6 billion in cuts to National Defense (Dems thinking that Reps wouldn't stand for this), called sequestration by the Pentagon. The cuts in this article do NOT include sequestration cuts.

Another $6 billion in cuts would be for entitlement spending (ditto above, but reversed). I have yet to see anything published on how the $6 billion cut in entitlement spending is going to be accomplished. If you remember both would automatically go into effect if the super committee could not come up with a budget, which they miserably failed to do.

If anyone has heard something I missed I'd love to hear about it.

One good thing about these cuts is that by proposing a new round of BRAC (base realignment and closure) and National Guard cuts, the Department of Defense is virtually guaranteeing major political pushback.

My experience with colonels and generals is they're usually very competent subject matter experts in their military specialty, but often are tone-deaf when it comes to politics. That's not a criticism — it's drilled into our uniformed personnel that politics is the job of the politicians, not the soldiers, and “stay in your lane” is not bad advice for someone wearing the uniform.

In this case, however, I wonder if the senior leaders are deliberately trying to make Obama’s plans for defense cutbacks a political nightmare that will never get implemented because even the liberal Democrats don't want their own local bases closed or National Guard units eliminated.

Time will tell.

Thanks Obama, disarm America and hand it over to your constituents in food stamps. If this pathetic clown gets four more years we are in deep crap. I’ll stop being picky and vote for any Republican to get him out of office.

I tell you — “constituents on food stamps” are illegals. That’s it. There really aren’t THAT many blacks on the welfare roles, at least in our neck of the woods.

He is fattening up his NEW army.

In the 90s we had clinton’s decimating of the military as part of the end of the cold war peace dividend.

in the 21st century, we have what will be know as obama’s Surreneder dividend!

"...the Commie cuts the military budget instead of his food stamp program. The food stamp pResident."

Many months ago, Obama and Congress cut food stamps by $10 billion to fund pay public school teachers. ...don't know whether or not that's been done again since then.

Little error on my part there. Correction: Obama and Congress cut food stamps by $10 billion to fund pay for public school teachers. Our local, federally funded government employees are members of both political parties, and they’ll be the last to take some serious budget and personnel (or “human resources”) cuts. That will most likely not be done until repudiation and currency adjustment time have arrived. The default process will be far rougher than most of us are willing to accept, and the process will continue to completion.

The Air Force said the service cannot absorb any further cuts in active duty forces because that would limit their ability to respond to multiple crises.

Overall, about 3,900 active duty, 5,100 Air Guard and 900 Air Force reserves would be cut in the next year.

Noting that senior defense leaders have said the planned $487 billion in budget cuts over the next 10 years will mean more reliance on the reserves, Guard association president, Retired Maj. Gen. Gus Hargett Jr. said this plan “reduces the Air Force’s ability to quickly respond to unforeseen contingencies in the future.”

Ok, let me get this straight: We are going to devastates the reserves and the Air National Guard to save money. BUT! Our rapid response plan is to rely on our Reserves and Ar National Guard units to fill the gaps. RIGHT?

Excuse me I have a headache from trying to figure this all out.

This is on top of the 16,000 civilian jobs they just eliminated this year.

Hope and Change!

Let's be honest here.

The main reason our military is being decimated by Obama and the Democrats is so that the Community Organizer can hand out more "entitlement" checks, more welfare to fat breeders, more ca$h to illegals, more unemployment checks to the lazy for 99 weeks, and more EBT cards to undeserving scum.

Think Trident submarines. No one knows where they are, and no one knows what their target package is.

That's good to hear. I wonder how many people had to knock the Kenyan down and sit on him to keep him from blabbing all about the subs to the media, Russia, China, Iran and the Muslim brotherhood. Or maybe our DoD had sense enough to not tell him.
