As many of you know, and as many of you don't know, this Freepathon is to raise money for the current quarter, not one down the road. We need to get this one over with and now.
November brings the most important election in our lifetime. FR must be up and running and healthy if we are going to make a difference.
If you have donated in the past, please donate again. If you give something every quarter, try to give something every month. If you are a monthly donor, give dollar-a-day a shot, if you can.
John needs some new equipment to stay on the air and we all understand that. Equipment gets old and wears out, just like you and me ;-)
Please help FR in any way you can.
We need to be here in November for reasons that should be obvious to all.

Seems to me if every active FReeper would donate just $5 a month...the cost of ONE pay-per-view movie, we wouldn’t need FReepathons.

I agree. Just $5 a month from 4000 members would end this. Really wish people would understand. Terrible to have this go on every 3 months.

I would be happy to donate, but for some strange reason
the FR credit card people will not take a card that has no physical address.
I never had it rejected by anyone else, and last used it to
pay for Carbonite online backup, and it has always worked in ATM machines in Europe and Asia, and online purchase of plane tickets.
That card has now expired and I am waiting for a new
Philippine card that I will pick up this week.

There’s been a “my way or the highway” mindset around here for a while now. Quite a few have chosen the “highway”, taking their support with them.
I raised my monthly another $5 and sent extra donation also. some of us are going above and beyond. It’s not like $5 a month would be a real burden on most of us. If you can afford a computer you can afford to help support FR and keep it running and updated.

I think the regular monthlies already do around $30k per quarter, we just need around 4000 more to give around $.18/day. EIGHTEEN CENTS per day. That is what I was thinking. Many already give, just need this added group.
The CC company takes out their share so FR doesn’t get the whole $5.
Or ten a month from 3133 Freeps which is what I do. That's less than a Mickey D's meal for three people. Or a subscription to one of the left-wing rag newspapers.
Heck, I'd pay that just to not see my nutty in-laws once a month if that was possible. To be able to come to FR after being exposed to their nonsense is sooooo refreshing.
Just look at the FReepathon Thread it is right above the big red 43% bar!
All FReepers will enjoy the camaraderie of fellow FReepers who are on duty all day, all night accepting questions, donations and it is a lot of fun.
Would you all please take a look and consider not being a free loader.
We all need FReeRepublic for a place to go and read the conservative side of what is happening.
And, it seems, many old time FReepers, too.
I donated/mailed my M.O 2 weeks ago and I didn;t even get an acknowledgement from FR.
I also e-mailed FR that only make it a 5 buck subscription for the year for everyone and believe me, this Freepathon thingy will be a thing of the past.

Something to keep in mind here is that the Freepathon target this quarter is $94,000. I don't think I've ever seen it this high, and this is one big reason why these Freepathons take longer and longer to reach the end.
Growth in "paying visitors" is the only way to move this along, folks!

I use to be a PayPal merchant, but my PayPal expired after I left the USA for the last time in 2004.
You don’t have to be a merchant. You can pay with your cc through Pay Pal. I’ve paid for things online using Pay Pal with no problem.
I purchased something from a place that only took PayPal - otherwise I’d have used the cc.

And now there seems to be a “Ostrich head in the sand” approach to the problem the censorship created. I suppose I should quit coming here since I don’t contribute anymore, but it is a great place to get the latest “true” news... as long as it isn’t about Mitt Romney...pretty sad IMO.

I would have to see a pretty good explanation for why it takes $376.000 a year to run a server before donating. Is there a “this is how your money is spent”-page somewhere? Should be.
I love Free Republic and have donated several times in the past....but any dissenting opinion from JR or anything less than being a rabid Newt supporter gets you zotted is probably not great for fund raising

I’ve seen a “budget” posted a few times that I think hasn’t been updated in years, but never an actual accounting of how the donations are actually spent. FR is not a “charity” so I guess they really don’t have to account for it, but I agree with you, I’m not going to “donate” to any organization that doesn’t give its donators a yearly full and accurate accounting of where and how the money is spent.
My nephew BTW recently bought a very nice powerful commercial, e-commerce grade, used but relatively recent server from e-bay for only a couple hundred bucks. There seems to be a lot of overhead in this operation and I don’t think it’s too much for donors and potential donors to ask for some accounting.
Why buy a cow when you can get milk for free paid for by others?

24/7 moderating would eat up a lot of that in a for-profit.
If the Robinsons are charging $7 G per month for sysadmin they are getting only a fraction of what they would get if FR was a for-profit with advertising.
And foregoing it would still not cover the shortfall.
I have seen very little of the niceness and tolerance you cite during the past month.
The tone has reminded me of a pack of hyenas viciously turning on anyone who speaks truth, however unflattering, of the candidate de jour.
Attacks on the truth and calls for censorship from any side of the political spectrum are not healthy.
I do give, but I’m not giving one dime more until I see the tone change around here.
Many have decided not to wait for the tone to change. They’re gone and they’ve taken their support with them. Why should they put up with the abuse?
I hope some lessons will be learned through this.
