SALT LAKE CITY -- Sunday afternoon, an explosion occurred at the home of Josh Powell.

Brother-in-law, Kirk Graves, confirms that Powell was killed in the explosion.

King 5 TV in Seattle reports that Powell had visitation with his two sons -- who live with their grandparents Chuck and Judy Cox -- at the time of the explosion. According to the report, the caseworker, who was outside at the time, smelled gas just before the explosion. Firefighters recovered two bodies that appear to be children.

More details will be released as made available.

The second he locked the door to that house those poor children were dead. The case worker is lucky she isn’t amongst the dead. Powell must have been planning this for days. I agree they should have met in a neutral location considering this guy has shown throughout the years that he is unstable and his father is a whack job. I would never have allowed those kids to be in the home with their father. Meet at the park or some restaurant, not at his home where he could do harm to them. Those poor grandparents, not only did they lose their daughter but now they have lost their grandbabies too

I DO NOT condone these actions, I do understand what it is for a person to be convicted in the media without any evidence. I also understand being driven insane by unfounded accusations and unreasonable requirements set by people in positions of authority.
If he killed his wife, I have seen no evidence. Let me look at your life as closely as he was looked at. You folks really think he was a murderer/mastermind? Ya.
I know what it is to have no friends in this world and to be vilified by others without any facts. He broke. You probably would too.
RIP Josh Powell, but you’ll burn for taking the kids with you.

Thanks. What a dirtbag. I remember hearing about camping in the middle of the night some time back. Dirtbag!

I would not break. Nobody can drive you insane if you’re not guilty. His own guilt is what drove him insane.

I don’t think he deserves to rest in peace. He killed innocent children.

He could have easily killed them at a neutral location too unless they were going to do some kind of security check on him. I don’t know anything about this case, but it doesn’t sound like it was going to end well one way or the other. Very sad and messed up story all the way around.

Tragic! Powell lost his boys because police found child porn on his computer. The house was owned by Powell’s dad, who is in jail for child porn.

You can’t crack an innocent person? Hmm, Nobody ever plead guilty to crime they didn’t commit? Nobody ever broke in a POW camp?
You’ve never experienced a serious injustice? This serious an accusation? Been accused and convicted in the rumor mill, abandonded by friends fellow “Christians”?
Now he’s a killer for sure.
They can indict a ham sandwich, but they couldn’t find enough to charge him? OK, sounds like no evidence.
Now he’s a killer. He has already been judged by the Almighty.

The JUDGE who gave him visiting rights is the problem. If I as a physician screwed up like this I would be sued. The JUDGE nothing and the lawyers who helped.

I agree, the caseworker is very lucky.

I feel sorry for the Cox family, and actually also for Powell's sister. One clip I watched concerning his father's arrest mentioned that she was estranged from her father and she stated that she was happy he had been arrested and that society would be protected from him.

I watched and read all the links in the thread and have to wonder if the father wasn't involved in Susan Powell's death in some way. Josh Powell's father was apparently obsessed with her and actually claimed that they were having a sexual relationship though Josh Powell denied it and her father stated that it was untrue and "disgusting." (It is that!)

In any case I hope Powell's father never gets out of jail.

My point in posting that link is that this obviously sick kid was driven to doing terrible things based on the pressure to be Mormon perfect. I don’t know what I would have done at that young age had my dear wife said she would divorce me and take the kids if I didn’t get a Temple recommend.

The subtle sickness of it all is maddening. And yes he was very, very sick.

I hadn’t seen the Mormon aspect to the whole mess.

The Mormon ultimatum sounds as though it drove the guy over the cliff. It was a mess already but that could have been the thing that kicked him over.

Horrible.

When this murderer refused to let the police question his young sons about the camping trip and disappearance of their mother it told me he was guilty. Why wouldn’t he do everything possible to help find his wife? He didn’t kill himself because he was broken-he killed himself because he was afraid he was going to be arrested. The kids were not under his control anymore and he feared the police would question the oldest boy, who was 5 at the time, and learn the truth. He obviously had no problem killing his kids because he had done it before.

Powell very obviously murdered his wife.

His story was that he decided to go camping with two toddlers during a blizzard at 2am on a Monday morning. Since his wife had no car, he told police that his wife had probably ridden off on a bicycle in a blizzard to run away with another man. Although he did not show up for work or answer his phone for days, he did have the time to have his carpets steamcleaned within hours after his wife went missing.

But please, remain in your fantasy world.
