The 2012 Super Bowl ultimately went against the New England Patriots by 21-17, much like in 2008. Now that the New York Giants have beaten the Patriots in the final minutes for the second Super Bowl in a row, it has made everyone rethink the legacies of both teams.
New England should have the greatest dynasty in NFL history and even in sports history by now.
While Brady and Belichick still have their three titles, ... they should have six or even seven instead - and that has now started to overshadow the rings they do have. If New England had six or more championships in the last 11 years, it would be the greatest franchise in NFL history and one of the greats in all of sports.
Last year, the Patriots lost a golden chance for potential ring No. 6 when the New York Jets upset them in the divisional playoffs. It is uncertain if New England would have then beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC title game, followed by the red-hot Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. ...
The Patriots have now lost more potential Super Bowl opportunities than they have won actual Super Bowls, which instantly puts them behind the Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys dynasties of old. Even if Brady and Belichick finally get their fourth championship someday, it won't mean as much because of those losses and because they still should have had so many more rings.

The game was over when Mario Manningham made the big catch at the 50. Also the G-men basically shut the Pats down after they scored the 2nd half TD. It was 3 scoring opportunities to one from that point on. The G-men are now 4-1 in Super Bowls with their only blemish being a 34-7 shellacking at the hands on my Ravens.
It was only by luck that they were there to begin with. They couldn’t close the deal in 2004 and they couldn’t do it now. Brady is Manning’s b***h and it’s incredibly pathetic.

three rings by less than a combined 10 points, and two losses as well...doesnt smell like an overbearing dynasty...runnin up scores vs mediocre teams in the regular season doesnt count...

Sorry, but making 4 straight Super Bowls, a feat that has never been done by any other team, would qualify the Buffalo Bills as the greatest Near-Miss Dynasty.

DV: Yep, that Manningham catch was game, set and match. Although, like I said, if you do the math, that asinine safety Ugg Boy gave up was the difference between having to kick a FG or scoring a TD. The Ravens are now my AFC team of choice.
p.s. Interesting that the Punts haven't won it all since Spygate. Hmmm...
Do you have any idea how many other cities would love to have a team as good as the Pats? You make it sound as if you are somehow entitled to win.
I'm a Steeler fan and I know what it feels like to both win and to lose a Super Bowl. Winning is more fun, but no one is entitled to it. When you lose one, you tip your hat to the winner and get ready for next year. And when you win one, you celebrate for a little while and then get ready for the next year.
Every time the Steelers have played in the SB, the only thing I knew for sure was that win or lose, I still had to get up and go to work the next day.
I am sure the Super Bowl XLV Champion Pittsburgh Steelers agree...oh, wait.
The San Francisco Forty Niners have gone to the Big Game 5 times...and walked out with 5 Lombardi trophies. There’s something to be said for WINNING the game every time you go into it. Otherwise we could talk about the dynasties of the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings.

Not only that, their QB’s have never thrown an interception in SB play, that’s REALLY impressive.
And the Yankees should have won in ‘04. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
Another key to this game was the play of the Giants defensive line especially those two stud DEs Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre Paul as they continually harassed Brady in spite of the good protection he got for the most part.
At least the Patriots didn’t blow the World Series, while being one strike away from winning.....TWICE!!!!

Or you can go to the Duane Thomas "fumble" in the endzone where Cowboy center Dave Manders was on top of it, but somehow it got ruled in favor of Baltimore.
The Broncos led 10-9 at the half. The third quarter did them in.
