Mushroom pickers lost hope, considered eating dog (Pit Bull)

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) — Dan Conne says he and his wife and son thought they were going to die after getting lost while picking mushrooms and spending nearly a week in the rugged forest of southwest Oregon.

They spent the nights huddled in a hollow log and considered sacrificing their pit bull, Jesse, for food.

"She's that good a dog, she'd have done it, too," Conne said.

But help finally arrived Saturday when a volunteer helicopter pilot decided to look outside the search area and spotted the family — Dan, his wife, Belinda, and their 25-year-old son, Michael — on the edge of a deep ravine in tall timber. The three were about 10 miles from the town of Gold Beach, roughly 330 miles south-southwest of Portland.

It would take longer than a week without food for me to consider eating my dogs.

What idiots.

I bet if the dog was asked and it understood it would have ran away...or maybe ate the people. LOL

What the article doesn’t mention is that they were found about 300 yards from a road and less than a mile from where they parked their car. What a bunch of f*****g morons.

These people must be morons. They went to pick mushrooms, didn’t they find any? They were going to kill and eat their dog, weren’t there any other varmints around they could have eaten?

No more nature for you!

In one of the stories they rescuers reported finding discarded clothing these folks dropped.

Forget the getting lost part, that can happen. They didnt have even the basic survival tools. The only thing they did correctly was stay in one place once they realized they were lost. Except that one place was an area so thick the helicopters flew over multiple times without seeing them.

OK, you don’t pick mushrooms in the dead of winter, so it must have been spring/summer.

Any idiot that couldn’t find things to eat that time of year deserves to starve to death.

Dan Conne hugs his dog, Jesse, Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at the pound in Gold Beach, Ore., where he was with her after they spent six night lost in the woods. Conne, his wife, Belinda, and son, Michael were airlifted out of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest on Saturday and spent the night at the Curry General Hospital recuperating from their ordeal. The dog walked out with a ground search team. Conne said at one point he thought he might have to kill the dog for food, but his wife said they never could have done that. Photo: Jeff Barnard / AP

Because, I'm thinking maybe they found some...
