Eastwood ad not filmed in Detroit
Charleston (WV) Daily Mail ^ | February 7, 2012 | Don Surber

Clint Eastwood and Chrysler ticked off plenty of conservatives who usually back the actor and director. The ad’s message is that everything is peachy keen now that taxpayers bailed out Chrysler for a second time. It is halftime in America, the ad said. That ticked off conservatives. Saying it is halftime in America is echoic of Ronald Reagan’s morning in America and is seen as a political ad for President Obama’s re-election.

From Mark Steyn: “Do you know who owns almost 60% of Chrysler, this great American institution? Fiat! Yes, nothing could be more American than an Italian company that’s building their cars in Ontario, Canada, right?”

Of course, without the bailout, both Chrysler and GM would have survived. They would have gone into bankruptcy court, dumped some loans, reorganized and moved on their merry way. Ford stayed afloat without corporate welfare.

I have no problem with the ad. Free speech and all that. I will never buy another Chrysler product, which is a shame since the 200 with the hardtop convertible is tempting. Might buy a Camaro, but really Government Motors remains a problem.

Definitely NOT a Lee Iacocca moment for America. I wonder why Government Motors used pickups to come out of the rubble of Barry’s scorched earth instead of the Volt. That was weird. The commercial didn’t make sense. Fossil fuel burners made it, the Volt didn’t.

Mexico, too. Their best selling model, the Ram Heavy Duty pickups, are all made in Mexico. Half ton regular cabs are also made in Mexico. Italian owned and Mexico made. It’s half time in Italy!

It tells me that most cities have their hellhole zones.

While I’m no fan of any cities, parts of Detroit are quite nice and very upscale.

Seems pretty libertarian based on this interview.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/11/clint-eastwood-talks-politics-whos-the-one-democrat-that-he-voted-for.html

Fiscal conservative who votes Republican but pro-abortion, gay marriage, an environmentalist, etc.

Too many people see a character and assume the actor fits the character.

Basically they spent a load of money to appeal to the old fashioned flyover country white male, can’t quite figure that one out.

"parts of Detroit are quite nice and very upscale."
greektown, mexicantown and downtown... combine them all for about 1 square mile out of several hundred square miles..... the math says less than one half of one percent...

Look at the movies he’s made, especially the recent ones.

I assume you are referring to suburbs, like Grosse Point or Bloomfield Hills....Detroit suburbs are some of the best in the country.

Yesterday The Five agreed that the ad was an Obama endorsement.
Well, four of the Five anyway.

My sister lives in a pretty nice neighborhood in Livonia. Lots of mid level auto executives there. Houses run between $100,000 and half a mil.

I like it when Bekel starts muttering after being presented with full facts.
Then he looks around like a guilty child because he uses partial truths to make a point.
Juan is the worst about distorting facts. He should be fired, again.

I’m a proud lifelong resident of a suburban Detroit white-flight bedroom community and I feel fine.

My wife is also from one of those bedroom communities north of 8 Mile. Some of those are actually among the nicest communities in America. Meanwhile the city is a train wreck.

In places crossing 8 Mile is a lot like crossing the Mexican Border.

I have lived on, and off in Livonia over the last 45 years since we moved to that “State Up North” from The Buckeye State back in the late 60’s. Nice, clean, and safe. Definatly a Ford community. If ya get a chance, their most famous landmark is Bates Burgers on 5mile & Farmington :)
