Would it have killed the journalist or GWB to follow up and either ask if he would have structured it differently, or done it exactly the same? You know, maybe so he could have said he’d do the union thing differently, or secure the payment back differently, etc.... Or say not so big of a bailout, or put tangible financial goals in place. Perhaps he wanted to keep the jobs and felt it was the only thing to do, but that he’d have done it differently.

Man. Craptacular thinking on display on all sides.

slightly bigger context:

http://www.propublica.org/special/government-bailouts

Note S&L bailout is $293.3 billion

Auto bailout is $25 billion

In late September 2008, Congress approved a more than $630 billion spending bill, which included a measure for $25 billion in loans to the auto industry. These low-interest loans are intended to aid the industry in its push to build more fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly vehicles. The Detroit 3 -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler -- will be the primary beneficiaries. $25 billion

All you need to see is the recent photo of the two George Bushes and Zero communing (read: plotting) together in the oval orifice to realize that our Ship of State is sinking, listing hard to Port (LEFT)!

If you REALLY believe that Gm & Chrysler paid back that money, then you must also believe that obama balanced the budget also.

Trying to put this in context won’t matter to the Bush bashers.

They couldn’t care less that Bush simply gave them low interest loans so they could make it to orderly bankruptcy...not “bailed them out”.

He did the right thing for our nation, he did it for the right reasons, and he did it in a conservative manner....even though he personally knew the mfgs did not deserve it.

That’s leadership..taking a path you don’t want to, but have to, and making the best of it.

The tragic thing is that its the UAW getting the bailout overall. All this bailout garbage does is keep the scumbag components of the UAW alive. Taxpayer money is being wasted to keep a few of the privileged class employed. Its beyond disgusting.

If GM were allowed to implode in lieu of “gubbamint” handouts, several competitive companies would have arose from the ashes. GM has valuable assets. Its the labor organization that keeps them worthless.

Also, Democrats/Liberals have no problem killing innocent people be it unborn or elderly ... why can’t they simply apply Obamacare logic to failing companies??? Oh, I forgot ... the subhumans that keep those unions alive actually give the party money ... the unborn and elderly do not. Bush should have realized that the filth on the left would use this as an excuse to blow billions on this union as they kick back tons of money. There’s a lot Bush should have realized.

Finally, we can’t have employers, workers, consumers, etc. all benefiting in the end ... the elites would lose a bit of their precious control. A ranking “boss” in the UAW has skills only transferable to positions like “thug” in Soviet Russia or some of the more clandestine parts of the Obama administration. Aside from that, they’re useless ... and they know that.

How about the EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS that burnandyankme gave to the European banks in total secret over the last TWO YEARS? Only he, obama and the other 10 Federal Reserve Board members knew about this money. ALL GIVEN in outright grants and in loans at 0.010% interest! Not a dime has been repaid and none of that money will probably ever be paid back.

Add this EIGHT TRILLION DOLLARS to the SIXTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS that we already owe. THAT IS TWENTY FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS IN RED INK... Representing FUTURE TAX RECEIPTS FOR GENERATIONS UPON GENERATIONS of indentured American slaves!

This was made public during the third week in December, after the results were released from the first ever audit of the Federal Reserve. Since not one elected repubic slime-ball has said anything about this... and the only thing coming from boehner and mcconnell is dead silence... do you want to try and justify that for your liberal friends in the repubic party? If you think that we here on Free Republic have become worthless... why don't you exile yourself out of here forever and I will personally make up any future donations that you might have given to Jim?

GWB-Obama are the worst pair of presidents ever

I've seen discussions about who was the worst president, but never about who were the worst consecutive pair. It's an interesting question.

And I think that you have the right answer. Regardless of who comes after Obama, it will be very difficult for this country to recover from the damage GWB and Obama did. The huge deficits, the illegal immigration, the lost wars, the loss of liberties, etc., etc.

If Libs could be shown and convinced of similarities between Obama and Bush, it is one of the few ways they might be persuaded to not vote for O. Plus, when making the argument it is easy to appear objective since you are saying that Bush did it TOO. Bad then, bad now, bad tomorrow.

Some Libs of my acquaintance are now referring to Obama as "Bush III."

They'll probably still hold their noses and vote for Obama, but the passion is gone. They won't be contributing money this time, and they won't be volunteering to help.

Where do you come up with that? Nearly every penny of the money fronted by the Fed has been repaid with interest, even if it was a low interest. Their highest amount on loan at any given time was approximately 1.5 trillion....

Here's a link to a contemporary thread that points out those facts.

Audit of the Federal Reserve Reveals $16 Trillion in Secret Bailouts

Here is a link to the report itself...go look it up.

GAO Report.

Why don't you try getting your facts straight before threatening other Freepers. Republicans aren't saying anything about it because THERE IS NOTHING THERE. Don't you think we would have noticed an extra 8-16 trillion dollars floating around, effectively doubling our M2 money supply?

Sheesh...

Do you have a better idea? No I think not.... as you are on here huffing and puffing as if any of your words mean something

If you don't think your words here on FreeRepublic mean anything or are not helping in anyway, why are you here?

I FIRST heard it when Rush Limbaugh spoke about it in detail before Christmas. I also read about it here on Free Republic. GM also paid back all their loans too huh?

You have been here since 2007 I have been here since 1998

I have watched more crap filled people come and go than you can imagine....

This place gets to be a fever filled swamp during the primaries ....then (so far) the fevers subside and saner voices prevail....So do you want a little club where you can self righteously hate the bad RINOS. and Karl Rove and GW Bush or do you want to try to keep Obama from winning the next election?

You have a choice

The people I enjoy talking to have some ideas in their heads
and can talk about what Bush did without drooling

The fact remains that the Fed money to financial institutions including foreign banks during the crisis never exceeded 1.5 Trillion outstanding, and it has all been paid back.

No, I don’t believe that GM paid back their loans, although a substantial amount has been paid back. What Obama did with the car makers was a pathetic giveaway to the unions, and a slap in the face of the creditors.

Just about what I expected from him....

It’s almost a super power nowadays, its so rare!

People are coming around though, the reality of Obama has been very sobering.
