It's not good when people want to raise taxes. But, ironically, it may turn out to be good that so many different people want to raise taxes in California. It appears increasingly likely that three competing tax initiatives will appear on the November ballot, which could result in voters rejecting them all.
We don't often agree with Gov. Jerry Brown, who is pushing one of the three tax increases. But we do agree with the governor that several initiatives on the same ballot could confuse voters and divide the pro-tax vote, resulting in none of them passing. The difference is that Gov. Brown is distressed by this likelihood. We're delighted. . .

Here in our local paper there is an article where the city councilmen have decided because tourism is up that a new bed tax will be imposed (raise it to 12%), since retail sales are up a new sales tax will imposed (total 8.9%).....I read the story and wondered is this satire, after my husband stooped yelling “what is wrong with these morons”, I knew is wasn’t.
California is run by liberal idiots (was that redundant?).
So let me get this straight, Californicans vote for politicians who will spend, spend, spend in order to build a utopian society that all with thrive in, yet probably won’t vote for the tax increases needed to build a their fabulous society.
These F in people are a bunch of F in idiots. No wonder the state, and for that matter the country, are in such a pickle.
The state is going under, morons, because the productive are leaving.
Now here's a question for the intelligensia who run this state - why do y'suppose they're leaving?

It would be great if it was treated as a windfall but instead that unexpected income will be added in as expected income for the next budget and the one after and so on.
California voters=worthless. Three times the “voters” voted for “one man one woman”. Three times the courts ruled against the people’s wishes and in favor of gay marriage. I have no sympathy for Cal in general. They DO vote these tyrannical SOB’s into office over and over so...
The people who make laws are exempt from their consequences.
The taxers, the regulators, the commissions, the board members, the teachers, the firemen, the cops, the nurses, the prison guards and the good old fashioned, city, county and state workers EAT FIRST and are overpaid by 44% over their private sector counterparts. They never have to worry about money again and their pensions and healthcare (BammyDeathCare exempted)are paid at the expense of every budget...and insulated and forged in iron by corrupt and illegal labor unions.
Illegals, welfare queens and the greenies are all in the money.
The producers are leaving because of how large useless government has grown to the and sympathetic Democrat vote-getting programs continue to make a simple business flee for other green pastures.
You cannot mandate everything and expect people who take risk to pay for those who take no risk (save fire and police).
The game is rigged, the unions have won, and like Detroit and other failed states (Cuba, Argentina, USSR, North Korea), eventually the Government crushes all opposition and you become a 3rd World pit. Look at LA, it is exactly that, save a few pockets.
Throw is the usual 30% hardcore democrat voters as found throughout the country and its pretty clear we're past the point of no return in CA.
Well, you do have to take into account our berserk gerrymandering. I'm in the Ribbon of Shame 23rd Congressional District. It runs about 200 miles right along the coast and is about 1000 feet wide in some places, running through three (I think) counties. It was set up specially to ensure the lovely Widow Capps (or an equally brain-dead dem) will maintain that seat.
Indeed. Gates and Allen got it right when they opted to set up shop in Washington state. As did Michael Dell, when he decided to stay where he was, after dropping out of the U of Texas.
My wife and I are middle class California voters, and we will NOT vote to permit California to take away any more of our money than they do now. We pay excessively, and we feel that the state can figure out how to spend taxes responsibly!
It appears to this non-Californian that your State increasingly resorts to direct democracy to decide the toughest issues. I regard that not only as a failure of representative, republican government but a flashing red warning that society itself is unraveling.
Is there still time to get on the ballot?
We could create all kinds of mischief by putting a proposal on there to tax all foreigners living abroad...
