GM looks to spur Chevy Volt sales with California leasing incentives

General Motors appears to be looking to spur sales of its Chevrolet Volt by offering potential California customers a chance to lease the $40,000 extended-range plug-in vehicle with no cash down, GreenCarReports.com said, citing a California Chevrolet dealer.

GM is offering a so-called "Quad $0" lease program on the Volt, in which leasing the car requires no down payment, no security deposit, no first-month's payment and no cash due upon sale, the website said, citing Randall Baum at Quality Chevrolet in Escondido, CA. That program gives those interested in driving the car a chance to lease one for as little as $369 a month with no cash down.

General Motors spokesman Robert Peterson confirmed the lease program, though said it would apply only to the Volts already produced and not the ones that GM's making this year. The latter Volts will qualify for stickers that let solo drivers in high-occupancy-vehicle lanes, whereas the older Volts under the "Quad $0" program do not. Peterson also said there were no plans to make that program available outside of California.

GM appears to be looking to spur Volt sales in the most populous U.S. state in the wake of a January where sales totaled 603 vehicles, down 61 percent from its monthly-record December 2011. Last year, GM sold 7,671 Volts, down substantially from its 10,000-unit target and 2,003 units less than the Nissan Leaf battery-electric vehicle.

Driving a volt would now stigmatize the driver.

Many drive vehicles that make a statement about themselves (by nature and often by intent).

What the hell does a Volt say about it’s owner....LIBERAL! Pure and simple.

Buyers from three groups will buy volts:
1 Government agencies
2. Companies who will get a pr benefit with their clients.
3 Rich people who don’t care if it works or not for the money. It’s cool, it’s rare, They’ll probably never drive it out of the neighborhood since they’ve got six other cars for that, and it looks nice next to the segway.

Real people won’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

So, zero commitment, zero obligation and free to get ... it's almost as if the car is intended to be given to people to abuse. Well, why not ... it's only the US taxpayers who paid for this thing ....

I wouldn't lease a car that the insurance premium was more than the lease payment. Anybody know what they charge to lease one of these rolling molitov cocktails?

By the way they advertise that this car gets 40 miles on a charge. Actual users have claimed about 18 miles on a full charge. So the extended range must get about 25 miles?

These cars won't even come close to fitting in with the California drive everywhere lifestyle.

“Real people won’t touch it with a ten foot pole.”

Exactly. And why would they, when they can buy a Cruze that does almost as well on fuel for around $10K less after government subsidies on the Volt?

I expect they’ll accept EBT’s for the lease monthly payments, too, from OBAMA MOTORS?

My best friend , very conservative guy, bought a Volt for the tax credits he got from federal and California taxes. I make fun of the car every chance I get. BTW his other vehicle is a SmartCar.

Volt drivers I know are “techy” types.

One guy lives 12 miles from work and didn’t buy gasoline the first 5 months.

Of course his wife has a Corvette LOL.

Why does the Volt have a rear-window defroster? So you can keep your hands warm while you push it.

Why does a bag of marshmellows come with each volt in the glove compartment? So you can roast them while you wait for the fire department...

Did you notice the lease terms? Nothing down, no payments and no default for no payments. Sounds like the crew from the government FHA and mortgage brokers during our pre 2008 housing bubble now has the job of writing leases and financing for Obama Motors Volt sales. Who pays in the end? We few taxpayers.

LOL

I've heard that Volt owners are installing large catch bumpers on the rear. When the charge runs out, you can have a buddy with combustion power push the car to re-charge it's batteries.
