Will All Medical Insurance Policies Have to Cover The Abortion Pill?
2-9-2012 | Allan J. Favish

What if Obama lifts the regulation that requires Catholic institutions to offer their employees medical insurance policies that cover the abortion pill? Is there another regulation that requires all insurers to only offer medical insurance policies that include such coverage? If so, from whom would the Catholic institution purchase the medical insurance?

This question is yet another stark reminder of why we must defeat Barack Obama this November, or else.

As I understand it, the answer to any and all questions is: Whatever Sebelius wants.

Our congress, in their infinite wisdom, handed over a ‘blank check’ to the executive branch with healthcare...so they could hurry up and get it passed in the dead of night.

I rather doubt that he will do this.

My impression is that he would like to lift this regulation, as a matter of political expediency--Barack Obama is the quintessential Chicago-style politician--but to do so would greatly disappoint and irritate his left-of-center base; and a disspirited base is very seldom compatible with a political victory at the ballot box.

On the other hand, he has now enraged a great many Catholic voters (and a lot of non-Catholics also, who value liberty and religious freedom). Some of these "swing" voters will probably vote against him in November. (Even though the economy is likely to predominate--and it will almost certainly not be helpful to President Obama--secondary issues may also play a role; especially among those who were previously undecided.)

In short, President Obama now appears to be impaled on the horns of the proverbial dilemma...

Great analysis. Of the type that has been lacking around here for the past few months. Keep it coming.
