Perry: Newt Is Best Conservative to Beat Obama
Newsmax ^ | 2-9-12 | Myers/Walters

Posted on 02/09/2012 3:31:30 PM PST by VinL

Texas Governor and former presidential candidate Rick Perry tells Newsmax that Newt Gingrich is the most capable Republican still in the race and the right conservative to go to Washington and “make it as inconsequential as he can.”...

“I’ve endorsed Newt, so I hope that has some impact. We’re looking for the most conservative candidate. Texans by and large are a conservative lot,” he says.

“But any of our candidates are going to be better than Obama. My goal is to send the most conservative person to Washington D.C., that understands how to balance the budget, and Newt Gingrich has done that.

“I think Newt by any measure, from the standpoint of fiscal conservatism, being able to actually operate in that shark tank in Washington, is the most capable individual. He’s balanced a number of budgets before.

“Mitt’s been a very successful businessman, but the idea that you can transform your experiences as a private sector businessman into working in Washington doesn’t necessarily translate.

“I know for a fact that Newt knows how to work there. He is committed to blowing the place up, from a figurative standpoint, and to really put policies into place tax-wise, regulatory-wise.”

Perry says Gingrich is also a “big believer” in the Tenth Amendment, which provides that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the states by the Constitution should belong to the states or the people.

“You don’t see any of the other candidates out there talking about the Tenth Amendment and empowering the states and devolving power out of Washington, except Newt Gingrich.”

Perry says Gingrich is also the candidate with the best chance of defeating President Obama in November.

Perry was the best conservative to beat Obama.

Yes, he was. But now that he's gone, I agree with him that Newt is the best choice of the guys we have left. We need a pit bull, and that's Newt.

I liked Perry and would have voted for him, but the press was after him from the start because they knew he was vulnerable. This was not because of his marital status or any other personal issue for which they attacked Gingrich, but because he’s like GWB, who was also an honorable man, and was not aggressive in stating his postions. I didn’t agree with Bush all the time, but he was honorable; however, even when he could have gotten support, he never did, because he was so unassuming.

I think Perry was more conservative than Bush, but he had the same manner and the press and the Dems and the RINOs absolutely crushed him. It’s disgusting and makes you sick when you sit back and look at it.

However, that said, I sure hope Perry gets out there and campaigns with Gingrich. They are very similar in their views, but Gingrich has a more affable...or even flamboyant... personality and is better at press conferences.

This may come down to Gingrich/Perry vs Romney/Santorum.

Perry and Gingrich never attacked each other in the debates.Too much respect between them. Perry will campaign hard for Newt.

I watched Perry’s CPAC speech today on C-Span .. It was a real ‘barn burner’,and he was justly rewarded with a standing ovation !

Rick Perry—”If it’s halftime in America, I’m fearful of what the final score will be with Obama as QB. “

Watch out,Obama, Perry’s reloading !

“Newt opposes illegal immigration.”

He’s also for capitalism too. At least in theory. That’s why his rhetoric frustrates me. It’s like he wants to be another McCain.

Exactly what are your womenfolk they looking for in a President? Somebody they want to go out to dinner with, somebody who has a wife and family they want to go out to dinner with, somebody they think is hot and sexy?

Actually, none of the candidates qualify on that score...

But leaving that aside, do they have any opinions on the actual views and political positions of the candidates? If so, what do they think? You, as the guy in charge of these dim bulbs, should be showing them how to think about these issues and telling them to stop worrying about whether they like a candidate’s body or his family.

I’m a woman myself, and I’m sick and tired of women “disliking” someone for reasons that they themselves couldn’t define if you asked them.

“Perry was by far the best conservative in the race. Too bad he didn’t hang in there. We needed an Washington outsider to shake things up, but in the end of the guys remaining Romney is the guy the furthest from Washington. What irony.”

Maybe we need an insider. An outsider must depend on the establishment insiders in order to find his way.

“OK you experts say we need to do this? OK you win because you guys know what you’re doing.”

A ‘heretical’ insider, on the other hand, knows his way around and can affect change because he knows what he’s dealing with. He won’t be floored by the media, Congress and K street because he knows all their tricks.

“No he is not. Santorum is!”

Santorum said Obama is to popular to attack directly. That leaves Newt who has attacked Obama directly. Newt will get it done.

“Look what it got ya, too...”

haha? We ended up with Romney winning Florida because he made Newt look like a pro-illegal, pro-Freddie, Occupier liberal. If Newt focused on Romneycare instead of being distracted by these other issues, he could’ve won. Newt only has a chance when he is conservative!

It’s not about the female vote but rather anyone who reads People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly.

Newt was a pit bull in South Carolina. That might as well have been a decade ago. Since then? Not much.

He'd better pull it together and fast or he'll be spending election night with Governor Perry, watching from the sidelines and wondering where it all went wrong.

Heartless, I tells ya! Heartless.

Stupid fixations like that are what allow our ‘betters’ to lead the herd around as if they are dogs on a leash.

Because of it, we have the candidates that we have right now.

And that’s why the race is so unsettled... for no one really wants any of the candidates that are left.

Hence the “Look what it got ya!”

(It’s too bad people can’t actually look at a candidate’s record and platform to cast a vote.)

Now wait a minute here. Wasn't Perry a fighter pilot in the military? I am reasonably certain that a high IQ is a prerequisite to even be considered. In any case, dumb people usually don't decide to be republicans.

Vin, I was thinking about Donald Trump's message to Santoruim. Did you get that part, when he said to Rick, so Now you want to be president. I still think he was encouraged to keep the votes divided. Like they posted on Redstate, the establishment sent money to Rick's campaign after Newt's win to South Carolina. Trump came across as if Rick had double played them (could explain why he was so furious-just a thought)

Best wishes always, Vin.
