President Obama will announce Monday that he plans to cut the nations projected annual deficit in half by the end of his first term, a senior administration official said Saturday.
The plan will make explicit what Obama officials have been suggesting for months: Contrary to his campaign promise, Obama will allow the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans expire as scheduled at the end of 2010 instead of seeking their repeal sooner. Officials determined that seeking to raise the taxes earlier during a recession was a bad idea, advisers said.
Obama, who will speak Monday to a Fiscal Responsibility Summit at the White House, also will outline steps he is taking to eliminate what his staff calls accounting gimmicks used by previous administrations.
This budget actually is going to assume that there will be a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood or manmade disaster in the United States in fiscal year 2010, and each year going forward 10 years, the official said. The Bush budget never assumed that.

Barky just lost the election.
Obviously he mis-spoke. er...wait, the anointed one doesn’t make mistakes {snort}, we must’ve mis-understood him. What he meant was, the huge deficit we had then would be half what we have now. Just a mix-up in timing, he wasn’t going to cut it in half, this would be half of what we would have...
I hope he's stupid enough to go through with this announcement. Alas, the GOP is equally stupid and won't saying anything about it. Sadly, neither the Dems or Repubs would pass it even if he did attempt to submit a budget. (Has he ever submitted a budget for a vote?)
Thanks tobyhill.
Will Mr. Obama bite the hands that elected and will reelect him? Absolutely. People stupid enough to have voted for him the first time will vote for him again. They are ruled by emotion and do not have the ability to reason. God help us!
Another Obama disaster and blame Bush too,the chump never stops the blame game.
