Manhattan prosecutors have quietly offered a no-jail, misdemeanor deal to the retired young Marine facing a mandatory 3 1/2-year prison sentence after trying to check his Indiana-registered handgun at the Empire State Building, court papers reveal.

But former tow gunner Ryan Jerome — who has garnered letter-writing support from hundreds of current and former Marines — is saying no thanks and continues to ask that the case be dropped altogether.

The DA’s conciliatory offer, and the fact that it’s been on the table for two months, was revealed in a letter filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

I wonder if a New York Jury would convict him? Do they even know that the have the right and obligation to nullify the law if they believe that an injustice is being done?

I’m wanting to drive up to Maine to hunt black bear with my .500 magnum next year. Problem is, I have to drive through New York to get there and then back with a dead bear in the back of my truck. Anybody know if New York troopers are respecting FOPA?

Really? Indiana registers EVERY handgun?

If so, they are going to go on my list of "never-again-to-set-foot-in" states.

If you’re going to eat it, wouldn’t it be quartered and on ice in coolers where it wouldn’t attract notice?

Handguns are not registered in Indiana. Lifetime concealed carry permits are available on a “shall issue” basis.

I haven’t thought that far ahead. I’m still working on the legalities of the drive. New York state law prohibits having a handgun in a vehicle without a New York permit and, even beyond that, there is no consistency with regards to local laws within the state. One could find oneself in a serious legal predicament here. FOPA should supersede NY state/local laws but a New York Trooper could still change your plans in a hurry if he/she was inclined to do so as numerous travelers to New York have already learned.
