I read this and I was actually disappointed in Dolan, but I don’t think he fully understands what we’re up against, because it’s almost unthinkable.

Cdl Dolan seemed to be annoyed because Obama hadn’t given him a dispensation from a particular provision...in a law that is oppressive, designed to take over every individual life in the US and drive all other outside sources of human thought and behavior out of the public sphere and make them wither and die.

This is the ultimate takeover by the State. Dolan was very conciliatory when he make his statement, cited FDR and a bunch of Dem saints, and was annoyed only because Obama had promised (apparently in a private phone call in November) to let the Church off the hook and did not do so.

I will say there are other bishops (such as Chaput, probably the smartest of our bishops) who understand what is happening. But in a lot of ways, Dolan is old school and doesn’t realize that the game has changed entirely.

And the stakes have never been higher, not only for the Church in particular, but for people of faith and people of no faith...that is, individuals who wish to control the private sphere and make their own decisions, just as the Founders wanted us to do when they based themselves on the Natural Law that is also the law of the Church.

A little bit of hyperbole? But I like it!
