Mika On Santorum: 'I Don't Agree With Anything He Says, But I Like The Guy'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

There was a surprisingly positive consensus about Rick Santorum on today's Morning Joe. Most remarkable was the observation by Obama fan Mika Brzezinski, who said "I don't agree with anything he says, but I like the guy." H/t to NewsBusters reader D.B. for audio assistance.

Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist were also upbeat on Santorum, Scarborough astutely observing that "90% of Americans don't obsess on social issues," so that what some would cast as controversial past statements by Santorum won't hurt him nearly as much as might be imagined.

as if what they are pushing on society “just is”, and WE’RE the ones “warring” against it.

Right. It's as if abortion is the most normal thing in the world and the gay agenda has always been 'normal' and conservatives are the 'weird' ones.

He's not campaigning on Social Issues, although he doesn't shrink from them when asked.

Unlike every Republican candidate since Reagan. I find Santorum's willingness to pull these issues into the open sunlight a refreshing development.

You NAILED it!... Exactly my feelings... Talk about the issues that concern EVERY ONE... but don't shy away from talking about conviction issues if challenged, and go back to the main issues.

Newt still hanging on down there... fighting and scratching...

I respect and appreciate that too. But we need to counter the attacks that are already coming. There are Freepers calling him REV. Santorum, Saint Rick, Father Santorum, etc. They're also lying about him claiming that he is calling for a ban on all contraceptives.

If you tell people a lie often enough they'll believe it and I don't plan to let the lies go unchallenged.

I Agree With (almost) everything He Says, But I just Don’t Like The Guy.

Actually, I think that is Newt's problem. Besides looking like a curmudgeonly Keebler elf, Newt brings the whole failed marriages/adultery thing to the race. Lots of people could well say they "agree with him, but don't like him". I hope Santorum can keep going. I was hoping after Florida that Santorum would drop out and endorse Newt. I am starting to think it should be the other way around.

Sort the opposite of how a lot of folks feel about Newt...they are for what he says, they just don’t like him.

Weird how that happens. I hope he can keep his likeability going, but keep strength. Iron fist in a velvet glove.

Wonder what life is like in the mitt household about now. Six months ago SNL was making jokes about how no one wanted him as Pres.

:sigh: I wonder if we will EVER see the day when it’s not necessary to “like” the president. I won’t WANT to like my president. I want my president to be TOUGH, STRONG, perhaps even disliked by a lot by those who want to do harm to this country, particularly by Democrats because HE/SHE reverses their policies and gets things DONE as well as opposing those residing/existing in the Establishment cabal.

I would like to see a president who at least half the people think is a total D*ck.

That’s MY opinion on that matter.

Mika always waxes generous to those who pose no threat whatsoever to Obama.

Why on earth would she, or anyone else, deign affectionate towards Newt Gingrich? Newt ate scores of Mika’s Democrats for breakfast and then managed to blow them up, en masse,
right out of Congress for all the world to see, having hoisted them all on their petards for the first time in forty years.

Newt critics are moderates or Marxists, plain and simple.
They are lost in the cult of personality which defines our entire culture so that’s partyly understandable, and they can be found picking nits of what they call Newt’s
“baggage”.

Never is it his impeccable accomplishment IN OFFICE, but the nits are picked at his personal stuff, the weird ex-wives, his out of office stumping for funds with Democrats for his various think tank operations, his out of office annointing of Republican Dede whatshername, because Newt clawed through glass to rebuild the Republican spine in Congress, and is a party man to the death.

Newt knows where all the bodies are buried because he buried them.

So, no, there are those who “don’t like” Newt, and will much prefer the barker kid person.

Mika likes Santorum.

Translation:
Whoever is going to grow the government is good by me. Of course I prefer a progressive statist, but in a pinch, a socially conservative statist will do. We can survive a few years of "talk" by the anti-choice folks, because let's face it, the Supreme Court is not going to overturn Roe v Wade. Look it worked with Bush right! I mean we got entire new deptartments of federal government! Department of Homeland Security! What's not to like. Having a socially conservative statist president definitely has its advantages, so if Obama has to go, we certainly want someone who will help us win back Congress and vote YES YES YES on more government. You see, although social conservatives try to flavor big government with their own spice, we know that eventually we'll get another progressive statist who can really use those tools as intended. So I for one welcome our conservative dupe.
