SAF collects on another lawsuit, this time from Omaha, Neb.

The Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation has banked another check to cover legal fees in a federal gun rights lawsuit, this one for $12,000 from the City of Omaha, NE.

While the amount is a fraction of the $399,950 payment received last week from the City of Chicago and anti-gun mayor Rahm Emanuel, it represents an equally-important victory to SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. This column discussed the Chicago pay-out with a photo image that raced across cyberspace.

The Omaha lawsuit was dealt with rather quickly late last year. It involved a legal resident alien, Armando Pliego Gonzalez and the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association, which joined SAF in the lawsuit. Pliego, a member of both organizations, had jumped through all the hoops to obtain a firearm after his home was robbed in an invasion-type caper in 2010.

I admit that on Constitutional matters I still harbor a bit of idealism i.e. I believe that cases won on merit should result in restored freedoms and an instant repeal (or nullification) of the silly, overreaching laws that spurred the suit in the first place.

But that, unfortunately, is not how the world works, and as we know all too well liberals spout rubbish about SAAFETY, the children, blood in the streets, etc. while counting the dollars even before they are collected. And so, the way forward may involve hitting them in the pocketbook as often as possible given the weakness of their laws, their case and their lack of desire to go to court to defend dodgy laws.

I’m tired of all the stories about municipalities that break the law, we the taxpayers cough up the money, and they go on their merry way, breaking the law.

Well...if the taxpayers keep electing these morons, they get to keep paying for their misdeeds.

The Liberals merely highlight their obscene HIPPOCRACY when they wail about SAAAFETY and the danger to children and blood on the streets.
The liberal is in hysterics about the LEGAL ownership of guns, noted in the 2nd Amendment, but is strangely silent regarding the actual bloodshed in the streets committed by the illegal owner/user of guns.
When a young, illegal possessor of a gun commits a firearms shooting and/or murder, “The poor youth was really trying to turn his life around.” “It was the fault of evil companions.”
I challenge the liberal to post here, the accounts of DRIVE BY shootings committed by LEGAL gun owners. Or convenience store hold-ups. Maybe even liquor stores.
In SOME localities, it seems that the ONLY gun use to be punished is that terrible circumstance when a terrified parent uses a LEGALLY owned firearm in home and personal defense. There is a “Duty to RETREAT” when retreat may mean jumping out the 2nd story window. Wonderful.
In the meantime, own that gun and PRAY IT IS NEVER, EVER NEEDED!!

“...$12,000 from the City of Omaha, NE.”

More correctly “from the taxpayers of the city of Omaha, NE.”

So, do the citizens of Omaha have standing to sue the city officials who “knew or should have known that their actions stood in violation of the constitution of the United States and of the state of Nebraska” for return of 12,000 of their tax dollars?

Just thinking out loud.
