Missing Californians (The Number of Top-Income Californians Have Declined by a Third)
American Thinker ^ | 02/15/2012 | Russ Vaugh

The Sacramento Bee website is reporting that the number of top-income taxpayers in California has declined by a third. In an article in its Capitol Alert section, the Bee says that those Californians with $500,000 and up taxable incomes have declined from almost 150,000 in 2007 to slightly under 100,000 in 2009. The article also notes that the 100,000, representing just over a half percent of the 14.6 million returns, accounted for 18.8 percent of total income reported, but paid 32 percent of all income taxes in 2009.

If Governor Jerry Brown wonders where a whole bunch of those making up that sizable segment of his top taxpayers disappeared to, he might want to call their new governor, Rick Perry, who may have lost in the primary, but who's the surefire winner in the contest to snag rich Californians fleeing the tax tyranny and liberal insanity of the no-longer glittering Golden State.

Punish the people who follow the rules and reward the people who ignore the rules. This is the sure road to success.

They are paying their taxes in Virginia ~ another place California's rich people are moving to in large numbers.

Top state income tax rate is 5.5% ~ and you are allowed to own property, do stuff with it, maybe raise a cow, or goats, or whatever ~ things only illegal aliens are allowed to do in CA anymore.

The coyote count is low and we have plenty of eagles in the sky. Just buy an overcoat.

Like here in Illinois. Dems raised income taxes 67%. They need more money. Property taxes continue to rise despite a fall in home values. Now they are setting up red light cameras and speed cameras near schools and parks to collect more money (nothing to do with “safety.”) Also passing laws where they can confiscate your state income tax refund if you owe any money on these bogus tickets. And the people of Illinois will continue to elect the same people.....If waste, fraud and abuse were eliminated, we would have a budget surplus.

Unfortunately those Kalipornians will probably be supporting Democrats once they get here.

We have several recent CA transplants in our neighborhood. Not one voted for 0 bummer. One Hispanic lady recently took the bottom half of her McPain/Palin sticker off her car.

Yep. Even I am looking to move back to TX. I dearly love CA’s landscape and weather but, just can’t take the over taxation and nanny state-ism anymore.

...back to? Geeeezzzzz what are you waiting for?? After paying six figures in TAXES in a single year in the last decade, we abandoned CA for TX! Can’t believe we didn’t get here to Hill Country Heaven sooner... everything (except for Zuma Beach) is better, and cheaper, and friendlier... and full of Californians!!!

No more leftist politicians or congresscritters...

ymmv

Yup, what's happening to you now is what happened here in the 1950s when New Yorkers fled that State for what was then a fairly conservative California.

No, the Democrat Liberal Elites will retroactively charge these rich scoflaws an exit tax that will correct the revenue imbalance. The last thing California will do is to charge illegal mexicans more taxes; they are not for taxes - they are for voting Democrat, period.

It is up to these rich refugees to tell California to go f@ck itself when the state-contracted debt collectors come calling.

You're absolutely correct about Incline Village, however California does not give up easily on their tax base. My parents lived in Incline for 25 while years while also keeping homes in Newport and Palm Desert. They were audited repeatedly, having to produce phone records, medical records, utility bills, gasoline expenses, and voting proofs, any number of things that supported Incline as their home. It was all upheld but takes a ton of real living there to get the state off ones back...

“we abandoned CA for TX!”

Good for you! If this country had more people like you who would rather switch than fight, there never would have been a USA! Personally, I’m glad you went to Texas. The more of you who choose to leave, the sooner we will reach critical mass here and the government will collapse. And while you are reveling in your self-serving move, you might want to consider that as California is now, so will Texas become if we don’t find a solution to our dilemma. You can have all of Texas so far as I am concerned. I turned down a move to Graham, TX years ago and am glad I did. What a crap hole! When we asked the mayor if the town’s swimming pool was integrated, he told us “why sho, but the (you no who’s) don’ t come because they know they aren’t welcome.” Then there was Possum Kingdom Lake, it was a dry county, and the women fixed food that would insure that they had at least two husbands.
So I’ll stay here in beautiful, temperate California and deal with our sorry politics because it’s way better in every way than Texas with all its humidity, bugs, snakes, etc.

...well, bless your heart sweetie. Enjoy the swirling ride down the toilet bowl. I’m proud to be surrounded by generations of descendants of the Republic of Texas and will have the natives’ backs when needed...

(ps... your second sentence is to asinine for comment)
