At a press event on the payroll tax cut yesterday, President Obama mentioned how extending the proposal would help Americans pay for gas as the price increases.
Obama attributed the growing price of oil to a strengthening economy which in turn means demand for oil increases.
"And when gas prices are on the rise again because as the economy strengthens, global demand for oil increases. And if we start seeing significant increases in gas prices, losing that $40 could not come at a worse time," Obama said.

....and then we can tax all those evil rich people and everybody will be happy!...........
Decreases in supply also lead to rising prices. Iran has been threatening to cut supplies for weeks and actually did today. That is probably the main reason for the price increase.
The lowest price I remember was 29 cents a gallon back in the early sixties. Of course, that was back when America resembled North Korea more than anyplace else, and we didn’t have a recovery to look forward to.
.....and here I thought that gasoline sales in this country were tanking....
If he kept his mouth shut we would merely think of him as a fool, but with his pie hole gaped open all the time he leaves us no doubt.
Aside from the (inconveeeeenient) fact that actual demand for gasoline is DOWN...
...I'd like to hear why it is that rising gas/oil prices under a Republican President are BOTH bad and the fault of the "EVIL" oil companies and speculators, whereas under a Dumb Dim Democrat President they are cause for celebration? Silly me, I didn't feel much like celebrating yesterday morning after dumping $48 in the tank for a week's worth of driving.
And where's the f'ing Lamestream Media on this utterly cynical, utterly false assertion? Don't answer, we know that they are busy Lewinskying Barack.
It’s expressing pessimism like this that has this country on the ropes. Try being a little more optimistic! Surely we can get gas up to $50 a gallon and have an even better economy!
The first one who should pounce on this is Gingrich. I write this because he has stated that he wants gas to go down to 2 dollars a gallon. He should issue a statement that he has reconsidered his stance. He should offer to support Obama’s energy policies if Obama will decree that gas must now be sold for 50 dollars a gallon. And why not? If emperor Obama can force insurance companies to give out contraceptives for free, then he can decree that gas must now be 50 dollars a gallon.
Clueless, absolutely clueless.
I like to curb my enthusiasm............
It already costs me $20 in gas to make $120 a day.
What he really means is : “ And if we start seeing significant increases in gas prices, my re-election could not come at a worse time, ”
On the Maryland front our liberal middle class robbing Governor O Malley is now trying to ram through a 35 cents gasoline tax increase after raising general sales taxes in 2008, and alcohol tax last year.
Just the rich will pay?? fat chance!
I remember 19 cents in SoCal in the early 60’s, I used to go to the store for my parents with a Dollar and get a Loaf of bread and a half gallon of milk and come home with change. A quarter was an all day of fun on our Mini Bikes
This was in fact the case in the previous administration. This time, not so much...

Didn’t Mr. Peanut say the same thing.
