Rasmussen Poll National (Santorum 39%, Romney 27%)
Rasmussen ^ | 2/15/12 | staff

Posted on 02/15/2012 9:30:10 AM PST by TexasFreeper2009

Follow the bouncing ball. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum has now bounced to a 12-point lead over Mitt Romney in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Santorum with 39% support to the former Massachusetts governor’s 27%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich follows from a distance with 15% of the vote, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with 10%. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Just over a week ago, it was Romney leading the pack with 34% after his win in the Florida Primary, followed by Gingrich 27%, Santorum 18% and Paul 11%. But then last week Santorum swept GOP caucuses in Colorado and Minnesota and a non-binding primary in Missouri as Gingrich continues to stumble in the race to be the conservative alternative to Romney.

Perhaps more tellingly, Santorum now trounces Romney 55% to 34% in a one-on-one matchup among likely GOP primary voters. This is the first time any challenger has led Romney nationally in a head-to-head match-up. Santorum also leads Romney head-to-head in Michigan.

Nationally, Romney still wins 47% to 38% paired against Gingrich and 47% to 42% running against only Paul.

I’m curious how Newt is so toxic to women but Bill Clinton was so loved?

No, you're not. The "a" word. You can cheat, lie, steal, and rape as long as you support unconditional abortions. C'mon. You knew that.

Maybe Santorum is generic. Kind of nondescript. Maybe a blank slate to most Americans.

Exactly right. And we either fill in that slate with honest vetting of this man's voting record and employment activities since he lost his seat, or Obama will.

The choice is ours.

I prefer Palin would run and be President over any of the 7 stooges that ran for the Republican nomination.

And I only prefer Pat Buchanan over Palin as Pat Buchanan would actually do something about illegals and about stopping free trade with China that is destroying the U.S.A.

My dream presidents in order:

1.Pat Buchanan
2. Tom Tancredo
3. Sarah Palin.

Am I resentful that Palin didn't run . You betcha. I feel she let us down and America down. She would have been great for limiting government and getting rid of corruption and reducing spending and the debt. Would she have done anything to deport illegals or to stop trading with Communist China that is destroying all our industries? No I don't think so and you are right then that scares me. But I am scared already as I know no other candidate will do anything either and Obama is letting in illegals , sending our jobs and industries to China and blowing up the debt and a thousand other crimes: and that scares me the most, this democrat Obama monster and what it is doing to America.

Hopefully, these numbers suggest that Santorum will do well on Super Tuesday.

This monstrosity Bill Clinton signed NAFTA, let illegals reach critical mass, signed “free trade” deal with China. And committed a thousand other crimes that have put the U.S. in the hole it is now.

I hate that democrat/marxist Bill Clinton. And Obama continues this democrat destruction of America set in motion by the POS Bill Clinton.

I think most of them support the Kenyan over a true conservative.

On Pat Buchanan—he knows conservatism. But Sarah Palin believes it. There’s a huge difference.

I would caution anyone who hasn’t noticed that Pat Buchanan is now no different from Chris Matthews.

As many of us have been saying and being insulted and ridiculed for saying...Santorum dropping out would not result in a Gingrich victory.

Yep. Santorum is the remaining ANTI ROMNEY. Time to coalesce. Romney must be stopped. Tennessee, Arizona and Michigan shall be it. The last stand.

Add Herman Cain to that, too.

Makes me wonder.

If something got really rought whilst he was President, whether he would quit that job for the sake of his family. And this is from somebody who still admires Herman Cain a great deal. NEVER QUIT. IF SANTORUM PULLS THIS OUT, THAT WILL BE THE MAXIM LEARNED FOR CONSERVATIVES. JUST LIKE REAGAN AND THATCHER AND WALESA AND JPII. GET IN THEIR FACES AND LET THEM KNOW YOU WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED, PRESSURED, BLACKMAILED, THREATENED OR PUSHED OUT. PERIOD.

Poor Gingrich. That plummeting green line of his is stunning. Like JFK Jr’s plane going down, it is so dramatic of a fall from grace. But hey, they guy is resilient, he could come back to fight another day. He is a scrapper.

Cain’s problem was not sexual harassment but incompetence, poor judgment, and appalling lack of understanding on foreign and domestic policy issues. The profound inadequacies of Santorum have yet to be unpacked for most voters. But I do agree on the question of staying power. If Huntsman and/or Perry had managed to hold on loosely another week or two for Mitt’s decline, the sane adults who knew what they were talking about would have had their day this primary season yet.

Really, just how stupid are the early state republican voters Jon Huntsman should be the frontrunner and not a discarded footnote from this campaign.

WE need someone who “won't give up” and who just keeps on truckin”, as it were. That is probably Santorum.

As soon as I read that, that clicked. Yes, that's exactly what we need.

Yeah AIT. If you look at the graph you see how other candidates rose and then fell — and fell sharply. I’m not sure of Newt can turn it around but he did fall and rise once before. We’ll see.
