In a budget hearing before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) asked Ms. Sebelius whether she contacted the bishops on the issue. “I know that the president has spoken to the bishops on several occasions,” she said. However, Ms. Sebelius said she did not know if the White House contacted the bishops before the changes in the contraception rule were solidified. The bishops said over the weekend that the administration didn’t consult them in crafting the new policy.
Mr. Hatch then asked if other groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood were informed of the contraception coverage rule and compromise.
“I know numerous conversations were had with religious leaders, insurers…stakeholders,” Ms. Sebelius said. “I assume some of those groups were talked to.”
Mr. Hatch said he thinks all religious institutions should be exempt from the contraceptive coverage rule.

Daley was against this and arranged one meeting with the Archbishop. The ‘ladies’ in key positions objected. It wouldn’t surprise me if this led to Daley’s departure.
I disagree. All Americans should be exempt from the contraceptive coverage rule. This edict that free people must violate their religious values, their God-given rights, and the First Amendment to the Constitution just to help reelect Obama is one of the most reprehensible things proposed in the history of the United States. If Obama's arrogance and overreach start a second civil war, I will not be cheering for the petty tyrant to win.

The rules she put down will exempt Muslims “charities” because they are run with a religious purpose and are FOR Muslims.
Other charities are not exempt because they don’t decriminate against non-members.

I haven't forgotten, nor have I forgiven self-proclaimed "pro-life leader" Brownback for foisting Sebelius on America. If he had stuck by his "principles" and vehemently opposed her nomination, there's a good chance it wouldn't have even made it a floor vote.
As difficult as it might be to confront reality, all Americans must.

Today was another show hearing. I'll assume without evidence or research that many of the same Senator-clowns who are outraged at the contraceptive rule also voted for Obamacare, the law that empowered Sebilius to make the rule.
You’re right that Gov. Brownback should be held accountable for not trying to stop Sebelius’s nomination. But, as a practical matter, the Democrats had 59 Senators (and soon had 60), and Brownback couldn’t have done more than delay her eventual confirmation. And even had Brownback’s opposition to the nomination convinced Obama to nominate someone else, whomever he named to HHS would have issued the same regulation, since Obama would control him or her.
So now it’s up to the Bishops to show some spine, especially the Bishop of whatever diocese she pollutes by her presence. This putative Catholic has long supported abortion, was a defender of Tiller the Killer, and now her role in this. Step up to the plate and deny this woman Communion in any Catholic Church, excommunicate the biatch if necessary. Her whole political career is akin to spitting in your collective faces.
There were some fears that Sebelius was going to run for the Senate and she was popular at the time. I’m sure she’s far less popular in Kansas now and possibly no longer a viable future candidate for anything. Also, if Sebelius had not been confirmed, would any other Obama choice for HHS Secretary have been any different?
He certainly should not have supported her, there was legitimate fear she would run for the Senate in 2010 (back when we didn’t know whether it was gonna be a good year) but that was a poor excuse, Brownback should have been well aware she’s an incompetent lightweight hack who would bring national shame to Kansas. But I doubt his opposition would have made any difference (and I know for a fact anyone else Obama would put in there would be doing the exact same things as she).
I don’t think there’s been a single Obama cabinet nomination I would have voted for I were a Senator.

They won’t, until they finally do. It’s been forty years, so I’m not holding my breath.
Sadly, excommunication seems to have fallen out of favor, worldwide, just as exorcism had. Fortunately, the rite of exorcism is making a comeback. Maybe excommunication will follow. If it does, it won’t happen soon.
While the Church has stood firm in It’s dogmatic teaching regarding abortion and contraception, It’s practical steps in opposing these evils has been poor.
Sebilius was Obama’s second choice, the first (Tom Daschle) had already withdrawn after problems with his taxes and lobbying career. After Reagan saw both Robert Bork and Doug Ginsberg come under fire from the left, he went with a safe, drab noncontroversial centrist pick that nobody would object to (now Justice Anthony Kennedy). Knowing what kind of empty suit wuss Obama is, there's at least a good chance his third pick would have been a low profile stealth liberal instead of a prominent liberal RAT like Daschle and Sebilius.
Rick Santorum has been endlessly racked over the coals by many freepers for endorsing Specter, it seems odd to
me that most conservatives have quickly forgotten that Brownback gave Sebelius cover and we warned something
like this would happen if she became HHS Secretary.
Sadly, I think quite a few of Obama’s picks were confirmed with “unanimous consent”. For example, there wasn't
even an up or down vote on Obama’s “Republican” pick for Sec. of Transportation, Ray LaThug. I would have certainly
voted against his nomination because of its odious quip-pro-quo nature. Incidentally, another item that the news media never picked on, and is never asked about, is that LaThug’s son, State Rep. Davin LaHood, is on the ballot
in Illinois as a Gingrich delegate. Isn't this a problem because if the younger LaHood’s candidate wins, it means daddy loses his job? Unless daddy has worked out an agreement to stay on in a Gingrich adminstration. Both LaThug’s should be asked how they can impartial when one is pledged to elect Gingrich and the other is working for Obama. This is like having Michelle Obama as a Romney elector.
On a related topic, I remember some freepers were going haywire when McCain announced he might put a Democrat in his cabinet. That was news? I'd be shocked if he DIDN'T put at least 1 Democrat in his cabinet. EVERY President I can think of has appointed at least 1 token member of “the other side” in his cabinet, including Obama. The difference is the Democrats wisely choose RINOs who do their bidding (Clinton picked William Cohen, Obama picked LaThug), whereas the Republican Presidents choose scumbag liberal Democrats who work to undermine them (Bush picked Clinton’; Norm Mineta). Don't know why the GOP Presidents
don't wise up and choose DINOs,
Most of Obama’s nominees haven't been just no’s, but HELL NO’s I wouldn't want to be white house dog catcher. Still, I'd evaluate each one on a case by case basis. Might be willing to support Steven Chu as Secretary of Energy
and Eric Shinseki as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The rest? ... ugh.
As I posted earlier, even if you’re right and Obama withdrew Sebelius’s nomination because (GASP!) a conservative Republican senator opposed her because she’s (GASP!) pro-abortion, it wouldn’t have made a difference, because had he appointed a “centrist Democrat” to HHS he or she still would have signed that same diktat requiring all employers to provide abortifacients in health insurance plans (and if he or she didn’t, Obama would just go over his or her head and do it anyway).
Simple. Those types of Conservatives within the Democrat party simply don't exist anymore. Well, maybe Pat Caddell. But what is considered a "Conservative Democrat" is usually a 75% liberal (or higher).
