Pelosi: Govt. Should Require Church To Pay for Birth Control (Excommunicate NOW!)
The Weekly Standard ^ | February 16, 2012 | John McCormack

Posted on 02/16/2012 2:14:50 PM PST by C19fan

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday morning that the government should require self-insured religious institutions, such as the Catholic church in Washington, D.C., to directly pay for contraception and abortifacients.

Pelosi talked about the importance of women's health, and then said, "Yes, I think that all institutions who cover, who give, health insurance should cover the full range of health insurance issues for women."

From what I’ve been taught, it’s a person’s actions that lead him/her to excommunication.

I believe Nancy Pelosi et al have already excommunicated themselves. The problem is that their bishops haven’t gotten around to filling out the paperwork.

the latter effectively excommunicated the abortionist rat Kathleen Sebellius.

I read that this happened after she presented herself for Holy Communion despite being asked not to. Has Nancy Pelosi formally been advised NOT to present for communion?

I think the bishops are between a rock and a hard place. First, a formal excommunication doesn't prevent desecration of the Eucharist if the person presents in a parish where she's not recognized.

Second, excommunication will give fresh red meat to the feminists, who will most assuredly point to this as "evidence" that the Catholic heirarchy is a bunch of old men who hate women, especially women who dare to speak up.

Third, if Pelosi is to be formally advised not to present for communion or formally excommunicated, there are a lot of others who have acted in similar fashion. Like Sen Mikulski, who gave us this preventive care nightmare and refused to exclude abortion. And Joe Biden. Trouble is, the majority of the most visible offenders are women, which will give the feminists even more fuel for their bigotry. Anything that leaves Biden off the hook will come across as sexist, yet a stance against Biden will look like Church interference in state matters. No matter what the Bishops might do to rein in proabort pols, the left will have a heyday spinning it to their base.

I'm just a Catholic lay person whose opinion means little :) But I'd like to see the Bishops unite and issue a whole lot of formal requests for specific politicians NOT to present themselves for Holy Communion until they repent, publicly apologize, and make amends to the extent they can. I'd like to see it based on consistent criteria such as public proabortion statements and a proabortion voting record. Consistent criteria applied equally to politicians of both genders would (hopefully) give less red meat to a dem base, who IMHO would love to see some of their own women excommunicated. And they can look at local politicians not just congress critters as far as I'm concerned!

The cowardly Catholic church will not excommunicate.

I agree. I've never understood the American left and the Catholic Church. I am not Catholic for a lot of reasons...but I know my history (I have a Doctorate in Church History). I am constantly amazed at what the left gets away. Everything they DO when it comes to reproduction rebels against Papal instruction and authority. The Bishops rebel against it too.

To the Pope: Either you are the Vicar of Christ...or you are not (what I believe is irrelevant to your congregants). What does it say about Papal authority when Bishops and laity not only ignore the teachings of the church...but openly decry them as inhumane, wrong, unfeeling, immoral etc?

Again...I've never understood how the Pope...ANY Pope allows their representatives to lead the Church will in open rebellion to its teachings...yet they do.

This clown ought to be told by her party to shut up. If she is not told to contain it, she will be an embarrassment tp all involved. She is an empty headed fool who speaks without thinking.

So what. These people are going balls to the walls against us. It’s time to take the damn gloves off and realize we’re in a real serious fight here. You know fight for what we believe like we actually zealously believe it. You can’t expect anyone else to fight for your beliefs.

I do not agree with that. The Catholic Church is not a corporation or politician that only cares about its customers or constituents. The Church cares about everybody ... even if that care is not reciprocated. So please DO write ... respectfully ... if you find the Bishop's inaction scandalous.

Her parish priest has written and requested that she does not take communion. It is now down to her bishop or archbishop. She has de facto excommunicated herself.

Excommunication is a serious thing, not a parking ticket. More like being stripped of your citizenship. So I understand why the archbishops are going slow here. After all, a soul is at stake.

Still, I do wish they would do so formally. This woman is the antithesis of Church teachings. Allowing her to continue claiming she is part of the Church is, to me, a sin.

Privately telling a Catholic to avoid holy communion is in no way real excommunication.

Public excommunication described here by Jesus Himself: “

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.”

To “tell it to the church...” in the New Testament context is to make it public...and to treat them as a pagan or tax collector is to eject them from the Church PUBLICLY.

Pelosi and practically every other radically socialist/fascist politician in America—from a Roman Catholic background, ALWAYS gleans votes from Catholic constituents by pushing the fact that “they are Catholic.” This is just wrong.

Probably half the most liberal politicians in America claim “they are Catholic,” and nothing is ever done about it, except occasionally a gutsy bishop or priest (privately) won’t serve them Communion. Then they still go out and brag about being Catholic.

HEY ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS: If a person is refused communion—and is unrepentant—GET SOME GUTS AND MAKE THEIR EXCOMMUNICATION PUBLIC!!!

“Wanna bet?”

I hope you are right! I hope the Bishops start excommunicating these CINO’s. They are a public scandal that has been allowed to fester much too long.

It is time the Church quits caring about what the Kennedy/social justice democrat catholic wing thinks. If they are offended, let them leave. The church will survive without them just fine; the church has always been about quality rather than quantity. Jesus had very few followers during his lifetime; the vast majority of the Jews were not having it, and that did not cause Jesus to change or water down his message.

The church needs a purge and needs to get back to its true teachings.

“In fact Pope Benedict joined WHO’s call for universal health coverage just before its report hit the press. He called health care a moral responsibility of government and an “inalienable right,” regardless of social and economic status or ability to pay. He cautioned that the privatization of health care should “not become a threat to the accessibility, availability, and quality of health care.””
