An Oklahoma state lawmaker is pushing to include churches under the "Stand Your Ground" law.

Representative Mike Ritze wants to give people clear legal authority to respond to dangerous individuals who threaten the safety of people at a place of worship.

"They don't have to do it, we are not mandating it. It just recognizes the right that they can do it just like they can in their homes, vehicles, and businesses," Rep. Ritze said.

The lawmaker points to the murder of a pastor in Anadarko and the recent bomb threat at Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond as the reasons for the law.

Pastor Paul Blair with Fairview Baptist says criminals are unpredictable and people have the right to defend themselves.

"I certainly want to make sure members are able to protect themselves when they come to worship on Sunday morning," Blair said.

A friend of mine tells me that his Preacher has testified to him that the Glock is water resistant as he wears it while doing Baptisms.

A major church insurer, Guide One Mutual, has started to quail and quiver about the dangers of guns in church. While the ever-cautious underwriters certainly try to be sensibly risk averse, it seems there is a bit of a progressive bias here (even though Progressive is a different insurance company). Surely they would care how well guarded a church is, not merely how likely it is that the guardians will slip up and hurt themselves?

I have given my consent to people who privately inquire that yes, they can indeed carry in our church (MO). To those who haven’t asked, well, concealed means concealed.

Anybody that comes in looking to commit violence is going to have a very bad day, and likely eternity.

There’s quite a few folks packin’ in my church as well, including some active and retired LEOs.
