Taking a page from rival Newt Gingrich, Republican presidential hopeful and newly minted front-runner Rick Santorum on Friday slammed the media for asking about a controversial comment one of his supporters made about contraception a day earlier.

"My record stands for itself," Santorum said in an interview on "CBS This Morning" after being asked about Foster Friess' comment on MSNBC Thursday that women should hold a Bayer aspirin between their knees to use as contraception.

LOL! MUST HEAR this slapdown of the press by Rick Santorum! Santorum tells CBS the media defended Obama regarding Reverand Wright's comments and presented it that Obama sat in that church for 20 years and didn't believe a thing he said! Yet Santorum is having to defend himself about something one of his supporters said. This is great!

This is a very old joke and the point was that people should take personal responsibility for their actions.

But, Rick is responsible for "his" comments like the one about women in combat and also when he said that contraception was "bad for America". Geeeesh!!! He'll be lucky to get 10 percent of the women's vote if he is the nominee. Santorum dude is out of touch with the real world. I'm returning to supporting Newt.

The “aspirin between the knees” joke has been around since I was a kid. It’s a foolproof method of contraception. Works every time it’s tried.

Correct. My Daddy told me the same thing when I was a teenager except it was just a plain aspirin, not a Bayer.

He also told me it was my responsiblity to keep the snake in the cage until I was married because when a guy's hormones turn on, his brain turns off.

Back in the day, it was a routine parental responsibility to have these type of father-son and mother-daughter talks when the children came of age. If one spouse wasn't up to the task, they could also be father-daughter or mother-son talks. My wife was too embarassed to talk about it, so I gave the same talk to my girls. That's the way responsible parents raised their kids and, most of the time, it worked.

Those rare times when it didn't, there were various responsible ways of dealing with it which didn't involve tossing the baby in a trash can.

ALthough, CBS posted the whole interview, the writeup doesn’t reflect the best part of Santorum’s smackdown......when he called the media on covering for obama sitting in Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years.
