Santorum Could Win Arizona GOP Primary on a Shoestring Budget
February 17, 2012
Phoenix, Arizona The Arizona primary is now less than two weeks away. Is anybody in Arizona campaigning for Rick Santorum? In fact, does anyone even know who he is? Santorum has a shoestring operation in Arizona, but he could win the primary. Santorum represented Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate, he's the son of a coal miner and a social and fiscal conservative.
As other challengers to Mitt Romney have faded, Santorum has surged. He doesn't have much money and he's being greately outspent by Mitt Romney, yet a recent poll in Arizona shows he has erased a huge gap and is now trailing the former Massachusetts Governor by just 38 percent to 31 percent -- and the gap may be narrowing.
Could Rick Santorum actually win the Arizona primary?
"Oh absolutely, absolutely," said Michael O'Neil of O'Neil Associates. "I think that what he needs to do is dominate the political narrative going into Super Tuesday and the way to do that is to win in both Michigan and Arizona."
If you are out looking for signs of the Santorum campaign in Arizona, they are not easy to find. No bumper stickers, no television commercials, no campaign office. But one thing he does have is supporters. "We do see people moving towards Mr. Santorum because he is a conservative that sticks to his values and doesn't waver," said Kelly Townsend of the Greater Phoenix Tea Party.

Looking at some of the polls in Georgia on Real Clear Politics site taken only a few days after his 3 state victory Rick Santorum is moving up in the polls even in Georgia.
In one of the polls in Ga, Newt and Rick are only 9 points apart, the poll was taken 2/9/12
Romney’s up on Santorum by 8 in Arizona as of a Rassmussen poll yesterday, and I have a feeling Santorum has peaked.
Time to send Rick Santorum’s campaign some more money to help him.
I’m amazed he’s that close. It’s supposed to be Mormon country, and they reelected McCain after all.
The world’s most successful cult may have a shot at occupying the White House. Sign of the times?
BTTT
It’s more like Blue-collar and anti-snob revenge.
Is he really broke? I sent him some money in January when everyone was writing him off because I thought he was really broke. I really couldn’t afford it then since we’re 50% unemployed in my house, but the big money guys usually will only support someone after they have momentum.
The map at the link shows that Arizona has three existing temples and two more under construction in the Phoenix area. There must be a vibrant population there to support such expansive buildings.

Is Arizona a winner-take-all state?
Identity politics at its worse.
I hope so, I am tired of having the Republican candidate chosen for me, first Dole, than McCain now Romney.
Won't happen.
No, he has not. Every Sunday that goes by during the run-up the elections: He will gain more supporters on Mon and beyond.
Santorum's dad was Blue-collar; about the only way I see Santorum being able to claim "blue collar" status is that he's been so sympathic to labor unions, voting AGAINST right to work laws. Santorum was a lawyer, has (I believe) an MBA and a law degree, and has spent most of his life as a Senator, and I think also as a lobbyist. He is certainly a "snob" in some ways -- he lectures the rest of us about morality and one gets the sense that he looks down on repentent sinners such as Newt because he believe himself morally superior. He is arrogant, and arrogance is a form of snobbery.
I'd rather have Newt, who has demonstrated true humility, doesn't presume to lecture ME and MINE about "values" and morality, and doesn't pretend to be something he's not.
Godspeed Newt Gingrich.
