LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The FBI says a fatal shooting in a Southern California Immigration and Customs Enforcement office occurred as an agent was being counseled on his performance by a high-ranking ICE official.

Federal officials on Friday identified the gunman as 45-year-old supervisory special agent Ezequiel Garcia and the victim as 51-year-old Kevin Kozak, deputy special agent in charge of the Los Angeles area.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The FBI says a fatal shooting in a Southern California Immigration and Customs Enforcement office occurred as an agent was being counseled on his performance by a high-ranking ICE official. Officials say Kozak is in stable condition, recovering from six gunshot wounds. He is described as alert and talking.

Officials say Garcia was fatally shot by a third agent who intervened. That agent is on administrative leave and his identity is being withheld.

And the lesson is: Never fire a guy who carries a gun for his job.

There is a right way and a wrong way to counsel or fire someone. Mr. Kozak who is recovering from six gunshot wounds has plenty time to learn how to do it the right way.

There is also the possibility that Garcia had mental problems. I am watching this story to see what else comes out, like if there’s a history of complaints against Garcia for being unstable. In that event, there is no such thing as a “nice” way to deliver bad news to an angry unhinged person.

No, go ahead and fire him. Just make sure you take his gun first.

How do you Fire / Discipline a psycho? Obviously Garcia has some issues.

Back to the question:

How do you Fire / Discipline a psycho?

Shoot First and Shoot Often.

Ping for the handgun round stopping power interest aspect of this.

“Officials say Kozak is in stable condition, recovering from six gunshot wounds.”

Pistol mag capacity is A Good Thing, and I don’t care about 9 vs. .40 vs. .45 vs. you name it, in a pistol round.

Why was an “unstable” man given that position and a gun?

If it turned out that the dead man had any connection to the gunrunning into Mexico I’m sure that would be just a coincidence.

Several public school officials have treated me VERY poorly in job evaluations and in closed-door meetings over philosophical differences (I am peformance-based, and they are politically motivated-based). I did not lose my cool and go off on even one of them. One of the last ones for whom I worked the longest told me he had been told I was "dangerous".

I have now escaped the "tar baby" of public education, work where my skills and point of view are highly respected and rewarded. No need exists to take punitive action against such people. God WILL take care of them and when He does the consequences they suffer will be unavoidable, irrevocable and often permanent unless the persons involved have a change of attitude.

The scripture promises that and I believe it. If more people would study the Bible, we would have less incidents like this happening.

Can't disagree that more is more when it comes to magazine capacity.

Of course, taking every advantage one possibly can, it's a good idea to have a sufficient caliber as well. Both of these have never been easier to achieve with today's offerings.

The main impression I get from this incident is that Kozak was wearing his body armor, and that Garcia was a lousy shot.

Just read an article in SWAT by gun trainer Louis Awerbuck (sp?) who loves the Saiga 12, modified for better mag feeding. He only shoots slugs! His reasoning is nobody fights AT ALL after being hit by a slug, and it’s good to 100+ yards. My only point being, opinions vary widely. He’d rather have 12 or 15 slugs, good to 100 yards, than 30 carbine shots, good to 300+ yards, for home defense and urban encounters.

Me, I like a whole bunch of 9mm in pistols, and 5.56 in carbines....

How did a nutjob like Ezequiel Garcia get to be a supervisory special agent?

I’m SURE that affirmative action had NOTHING to do with it!

Yes, he fired. That's how his boss was wounded. ;-)

No, seriously... weird article, the main body of which says nothing about him being fired.

Slugs? One word: Devastating. Especially those one-ounce solid-copper rounds.

Don't even wanna think about it... !
