Top GOP Senator Says ‘If Romney Loses Michigan, We Need a New Candidate’ (Anonymous Coward)
ABC The Note ^ | Jonathan Karl

A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can’t win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race. “If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity. The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not. “We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up. “He’d be too damaged,” he said. “If he can’t even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up.” What about Rick Santorum? “He’d lose 35 states,” the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich. It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who? “Jeb Bush,” the former Florida governor.

I would rather get killed with a candidate that I picked than one that was picked for me.

Senator ,take your pick and shove it.

Why is flawed used for Newt and not the other candidates?

Newt is flawed. Mitt is repugnant.

I'll vote for flawed. I won't vote for repugnant.

I agree. But can you imagine the amount of dirt on Newt? Most of it is known, but it will be paraded out all over again.

“They think Newt or Santorum would lose 35 States?!”

Yes they do. latest head to head polls had Newt down 18 points vs Obama. He’s a better candidate than Dole was in 1996, but his negatives are sky high, and Obama will not have to work that hard to keep those negatives high, with the media helping him.

Doubtful Santorum would do that poorly, but the media hates him and is on a search and destroy mission. The media will not stop until every liberal loathes Santorum with a passion and they will go 24/7 to make the election about birth control and gays etc. instead of about job and economy.

“If so, then Conservatvism is dead, at least in the Republican Party. “
Not really. We just need an electable conservative, fierce, disciplined and without any skeletons in the closet.

Yes they do.——

If Santorum loses, it will be completely over, because he would be our best candidate since Reagan (think of the others). Might as well go down with a true conservative.

But with the economy the way it is, I suspect a Reagan-sized landslide.
