Metal Storm...I think I saw them once when they opened for Iron Maiden.

This gadget has been around for 20 years, and noone has been able to find a use for it. The rounds don’t shoot accurately because the barrel length is different from subsequent rounds fired from the same barrel, in addition to being heated by previous rounds, and being subject to catastrophic destruction from cook-off. It is about as modern as the duck-foot flintlock pistol otherwise.

I was an EARLY investor...didn’t pan out. They even tried developing this technology for fire department ladder trucks to use fighting high-rise structure fires, a method of “shooting” ropes, water bombs and the like from one of those batteries attached to a scaffolding on a truck mounted ladder. Never materialized.

No military has bought any either...sure looks cool and I was awestruck and thought it was a sure fire hit so I threw some money their way.

Do you remember the “dread gun?” The thing that spins(?) and supposedly shoots ball-bearing-like projectiles, like 100,000 per minute with no recoil? I wonder what ever happened to that thing.

From the Wikipedia article:
In 2000 Chinese agents approached Michael O'Dwyer, inventor of the Metal Storm 'super gun' technology, and offered him US$100M to go to China to develop the technology[6][7]. O'Dwyer refused and informed the Australian government of the approach. Since then the Chinese have developed the technology independently. The China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) has details of a variety of Metal Storm-related research and development activity in China, including Close-In Weapons Systems for ships[8], and Hyper-velocity Ballistic Missile Interception[9]. The Chinese refer to their development efforts as 'Metal Storm' technology, with much of the research effort funded by the Central Government and conducted at Nanjing University.
Good to know he did the right thing, even if it only served to delay, not stop, the Chicom's development.

They have a lot of gall, calling their system by the same name. Probably for political reasons...

Not long if you consider it as a magazine and not lading individual barrels.

From the look of it if you unload this puppy on the bad guys, you’ll have plenty of time for a cup of coffee and a smoke before you’ll need any more ammo.

This thing has been around for a while. Sounds like a fart.

As long as it takes you to snap the new barrel in place.

Might be difficult to design for belt-feed, too. Great initial volley, but then what?

Lotsa hype, but seems rather impractical.

I think a well aimed or electronically guided shell of some sort would be just as effective. I’ve seen what depleted uranium rounds can do (YouTube).
