A jury awarded $16.5 million Thursday to a woman who said she was drugged with carbon dioxide and manipulated to believe she was raped by family members at the hands of a former State College psychologist. ...
Cantorna said his client was made to believe she was raped at the hands of her family and abused in cultlike rituals by prominent members of the community.
Metter was accused in the civil lawsuit of creating those images and suggesting them as reality while the woman was drugged and in her most vulnerable state.
“He took a woman who never had any history of this and made her relive the most horrific things one could imagine,” Cantorna said Thursday during closing arguments in the six-day civil trial. “He made her live it.”
Metter administered the mixture, pumped through a mask placed over the woman’s face. He thought the treatment would help recover repressed memories, according to the suit.
The lawsuit alleged the woman suffered lasting emotional anguish as a result. It also stated she suffered a brain injury due to repeated exposures to a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen.

Carbon DiOxide is NOT poison, it is a harmless, inert gas.
As long as you have Oxygen, you will be fine.
Carbon Monoxide? That is an entirely different story!

Carbon dioxide inhaled in high concentrations can be an anesthetic. When retained in the body as the result of severe lung disease, it can result in CO2 narcosis, coma, and death.
Carbon dioxide anesthesia was used in obstetrics and other surgery in the fifties, and is now used in pigs prior to slaughter. More humane than electroshock.
General anesthesia by a non-anesthesiologist and without proper monitoring and backup is a risky business, indeed.

I’ve heard of patients whose psychologist found “repressed memories” of abuse, but the carbon dioxide is a new one to me.
Sure are a bunch of sick puppies in State College, PA. But they all stick together because “their football team is all important.” And I thought Berkeley, CA was a rotten place.
Check out movie “Apollo 13.” Astronauts had to literally fit square pegs into round holes to prevent death from CO2 poisoning before any of the many other threats could have killed them. There also were hundreds of folks who died of CO2 poisoning in Africa when when a volcanic lake suddenly released a lot of it. CO2 is certainly not the cause of climate change (it may be an effect of it from other causes) and isn’t poisonous at common levels, but too much, or even too little of it, is dangerous. Even too much water or O2 can kill you.
I imagine that is the effect of the CO2 - displacing the oxygen. Perhaps like the hallucinations that sometimes occur with climbers at VERY high altitudes and under extreme body stress.
I knew a gal that claimed the university was doing experiments on her through radio waves. I just figured it was because she was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, but now....
Really odd but who can tell what memories are brought up or implanted when seeing a nut like the dr.

"A mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen"? I've been exposed to a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen for some 60 years now without any major brain injury. (Or at least I haven't started voting for Democrats or anything.)
Some critical details must be absent from the article!
My daughter giot water poisoning when she was a baby. She almost died. She did get a brain injury.
Hypercapnia will make a person super suggestible. It will also stimulate severe panic attacks and anxiety.
The LSD researchers of the 60’s had trouble identifying subjects who were going to have bad trips so they prescreened the subjects with high levels of CO2 and watched their response.
You had better watch out for the dihydrogenmonoxide as it will kill you!
Bad therapy techniques by therapists have planted and validated false memories of sexual abuse by fathers for many years. Even Freud was guilty of this with improper training in hypnosis which he used to treat women with hysteria.
When Freud’s patients accused their wealthy fathers, the fathers turned on Freud and was going to destroy him. To cover his arse, he developed the Oedipus Complex where he said that the sexual abuse did not happen but the daughters wanted it to happen!
I’ve followed many cases and the work of Elizabeth Loftus and the False Memory Foundation for years. Lot’s of people harmed by bad therapists.
