DHS Stonewalls Congress on Social Media Spying

Homeland Security reps refuse to name superiors who ordered federal agency to analyze online dissent

(PaulWatson) – Representatives from the Department of Homeland Security speaking today at a Congressional hearing regarding the federal agency’s monitoring of social media networks and news websites, including the Drudge Report, were evasive about who ordered them to look for reports or comments that “reflect adversely on the U.S. government and the DHS.”


The hearing was prompted as a result of the Electronic Privacy Information Center obtaining 300 documents through a Freedom of Information Act request which detailed how DHS had hired an outside contractor, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, to monitor social media outlets along with a list of websites, on a “24/7/365 basis,” in order to uncover “any media reports that reflect adversely on the U.S. Government and the Department of Homeland Security.”

The list of websites the DHS requested be monitored for such content included the Drudge Report, Facebook, Twitter, Huffington Post, and GoogleBlogSearch, a service that allows millions of individual blogs to be searched for keywords.

If this is not just another handjob by our elected leaders to pontificate on so much they are doing to protect us.... "you can wax the hair off my back and ride me like a surf board down Pennsylvania Ave.

If these clowns at DHS (more aptly named Committee for State Security... albeit KGB) refuse to answer the questions and the debased ring leaders of the media circus saying look at us holding hearings, can't or won't hold them in contempt of congress (and judging by the approval ratings of congress there should be a clause holding congress in contempt of the people).

Then just quit the smoke and mirrors and the misdirection "blowing smoke in our collective faces and demand unfailing loyalty to WDC..
and fire up the prisons to put all the patriots in with the others

This administration is at war with liberty, freedom, and the Constitution. The writers of which are the enemies of this government. Our educators and the media have partnered with the devil to enslave us. Perhaps our only hope is the Tea Party and whether it is strong enough to take back our country.

Refusing to name who ordered the analyzing of the internet indicates a guilty party. Refusing the names when testifying before congress indicates a federal agency having gone rogue. They are the ones who need monitoring. DHS is up to some un-American activities.

And once again, Congress fails to force the issue. They could refuse to accept the evasions and demand names and then threaten and hold the witnesses in contempt for failing to provide the names. They could bring in the capitol police and inform the witnesses that they would be detained if they did not answer, etc. etc., but they huff and puff and then move on and the Administration wins another one.

I can't believe that if this an ongoing op (which it appears to be) that the Fat Bitch's (Big Sis) jack-booted thugs are not monitoring FR as this is probably the most Conservative site out there and we Freepers are hardly reticent or timid when it comes to expressing our opinion about the Dept of Homeland [IN]Security; any of its many stooges and morons (specifically those who work for the TSA) as well as her boss, the Neo-Commie, Narcissistic, Fascist, Barry Hussein O'Bozzo.

I hope so as we will keep a legion of snoops occupied 24/7 simply dutifully recording our comments and trying to come up with the identity (good luck with that one) of who we really are.

And this is why I have little faith that the GOP really gives a damn about Conservatives.

And to add to what you said, Congress could also force a cut off in funding to General Dynamics over this contract. There is a lot of things Congress can do, but they won't.

Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Patrick Meehan (go read the article), where are your BALLS? You allowed the two thugs from DHS to treat you and the committee like a doormat. Unbelievable!

Attention DHS: Bring it, anytime. I am no longer armed.

As I have related previously, I decided to fly my plane to a gun show and sell all my firearms, ammo, knives and swords.

I loaded all this stuff in the second cockpit of my biplane and took off. On my way to the gun show I was feeling pretty good and decided to do a barrel roll just for kicks. When I did, all the stuff in the second cockpit fell out. My apologies to the folks on the ground below. Damn!
