"He played the central role in the Constitutional Convention and set the precedents that define what it means to be a constitutional executive: strong and energetic, aware of the limits of authority but guarding the prerogatives of office.

I have no problem with his and Lincoln's and other presidents birthdays rolled into one day. The reasons are that, personally, I don't care for Lincoln (should have let the South succeed), and prefer not to see Congress institute holidays for FDR and others going back.

Of course President Day includes clinton and hussein who have corrupted our society. Do you want to see all the bad presidents out of some 44 have their own day, which Congress would eventually get around to doing if not for this day? I prefer not.

Still, as I write this, I can see a special day for the FIRST president and the CIC who led the Revolution. So maybe I'm wrong.

IMHO, Both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln should have their own holiday. When you study both men and their lives, you see the greatness in each of them. These great Presidents had difficult lives, unexpected deaths of children and step children, failures on the battlefield, electoral losses, etc!!! But......they learned and overcame them.

It is real a crying shame that millions of Americans know relatively nothing about these magnificent Icons in American history!!! Only four great & best ones, IMHO. Washington, Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt (only for pursuit to victory in WWII) & Reagan!!! Worst Presidents, Obama & Carter!!!!

If I didn't know that your comments are satire, I'd have to rename you CatherinfofArrogance.

The libs and progressives, if they could, would wipe George Washington and the rest of the founders from our minds. We are wise to disallow that.

Yes, and since you no doubt saw the sarcasm tag in my post, I'm glad you know better than to "rename" me.

Isn’t it nteresting how the Marxists abolished the celebration of the individual for the “collective” and egalitarianism in the concept of a “President’s Day! Such Marxist propaganda to erase the individual and private property and the uniqueness of the human being—as if all people are equal and all people are due the same amount of respect. (Egalitarianism is evil—it encourages the removal of virtuous action and forces mediocracy.)

One professor remarked that the Constitution was the most brilliant political document ever written and that he didn’t understand why there wasn’t a James Madison Day. Actually, he was being facetious because he understood the Marxist intent on erasing the idea of a personal God and individual excellence and competition in children.

He knew why there will NEVER be a James Madison Day—because the Constitution is the most reviled document by vile, evil men who want to control and force slavery on the masses.

Wittgensteinian (and Goebbels) ideas-—control what words are allowed and you control the perceptions and worldview of the children.

This is all part of teaching children to hate this country so they have the proper Marxist, hedonist worldview which reviles all Virtue—self discipline—and destroys actual knowledge and wisdom of the ages. It is also part of the Marxist force to remove all tradition.

The United States Code does call it Washington’s Birthday.
(I’m not sure but there may be some individual state laws that call it Presidents’ Day; the store specials call it that also).

Columbus Day, Christmas Day, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Although it's implied in your statement by owning slaves, let me add that Washington was 1%er. He was rich. Damn him for having property and wealth, which of course he was willing to lose for liberty against tyranny. But then that's of no consequence in our liberal schools.

But hey, who's taught or knows that anymore? How few know that slavery was the way of the world back then? How many are taught or know that blacks owned blacks and that blacks captured black Africans to sell to other nations, not just America. How many know that whites and asians and latinos were also slaves back when? Even the all so noble native americans owned slaves of different tribes.

How many know that America was the first to repudiate such atrocities, and that America was the first country to give equal opportunity and civil rights to all people with darker skin?

All Americans should be proud of our history (I am) and our positive influence on the world, but instead the race mongers keep whining and perpetuating their own sorry standard of living, and still blame caucasians. Sorry, got off topic.

Bump!

All "Monday holidays" should be returned to their traditional dates as well.

Ya, you stole my thunder here. I was thinking how the liberals denigrate the Founding Fathers because of slavery, among other things.

I always have to laugh that the Board of Education in New Orleans changed the name of George Washington School. They decided that they didn’t want a school named after someone who owned slaves. They re-named the school after some obscure African king. This supposedly helped boost the self-esteem of the black students who attend the school.

New Orleans has some of the worst public school achievement in the country. But the Board of Education doesn’t want to spend time on that matter. They want to make sure they make their political statement in naming a school.

I want one of two things. Either I want to change Presidents’ Day to Washington Day OR I want to change MLK Day to Civil Rights Day (or some such inclusive name to include others who did similar work). If there is to be only ONE day honoring a specific person then it should be the first President of the country I’d think. Changing the names of things may seem small, but it is the way that the whole culture has been tweaked, drip by drip.

You have made some excellent points. But none of that matters to the liberals. The liberals expected the Founding Fathers to have had a 21st century liberal politically correct worldview in everything that they did.

As liberals look back at history, everyone who did not have a 21st century politically correct worldview is to be scorned.

The day that George Washington was born was marked as February 13, 1731, in Virginia.

No need to be sorry-—I agree with everything you said.

Kids today are also not taught, and have no idea, that the Founders by and large abhorred slavery, but they understood that they would never have a unified nation AT THAT POINT if they abolished slavery there and then. In other words, it was a choice of having an imperfect nation or none at all. However, they acted to curtail it as much as they could.

That sounds good in theory, but it will never happen.

It is much better for businesses to be closed for a long weekend, if it's in the middle of the week there are going to be a lot more people taking additional days off either before or after and making it a LONGER weekend.

No, it’s all window dressing and political correctness. Re-naming a school after an African king, hm? Someone should ask them how they feel about the current-day issue of slavery in the Sudan.
