(CBS News) The U.S. teams for the London Olympics are taking shape. And if one young contender has her way, her sport may get a new look. CBS News Michelle Miller has her story.

In a sport dominated by white athletes, 26-year-old fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad stands out.

"I know that I am different," she said. "But once my mask goes on, and the official or referee tells us to fence, then it's game time. My purpose when I compete is to win."

A muslim with a sword is not unusual. His opponents should wear leather necks when competing against him.

It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with race. They are all excited at the thought of a Muslim woman wearing a Hijab getting on the American Olympic Team.

I’ll bet there are a hundred better qualified candidates, and they only chose to interview her because she’s a Muslim.

My apologies. Since muslim women are condemned by their own religion I instantly thought that it must be a male who qualifies. In this particular case it is the muslim Olympic hopeful that should be cautious. If her father, brother, or uncle discovered her they could bury her up to her head in sand and then pelt her head with rocks until she is dead. All in the name of ... oh forget it. I think I made my point.
