Gingrich coming to Spokane
The Spokesman Review ^ | February 21, 2012; 9:50am

Posted on 02/21/2012 12:06:09 PM PST by Red Steel

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will hold a town hall-style forum in Spokane on Thursday, Spokane County Republican Chairman Matthew Pederson confirmed.

Details will be released later today, he said.

Gingrich is the third GOP presidential hopeful to make a stop in the Inland Northwest. Rick Santorum spoke in Coeur d'Alene last week and Ron Paul held a rally at the Spokane Convention Center on Friday.

Mitt Romney's son will visit Spokane Valley this afternoon.

Gingrich, despite being from Georgia, has noteworthy ties to Inland Northwest politics that he may or may not dwell on in his visit.

He engineered the 1994 Republican sweep that — among other things — took leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives away from Spokane when Republican George Nethercutt beat sitting House Speaker Tom Foley, a Democrat. Republicans, after capturing control of the House that year, chose Gingrich to replace Foley.

Washington holds its precinct caucuses and straw poll on March 3. Idaho's caucuses are March 6.

I think that Newt, being a historian, sees a chance for himself to go into the history books as one of the great presidents of all time like Reagan. He can reverse the move to socialism in the U.S. and set America back to being the greatest and strongest free market capitalist nation in the world. I think that his eye on history will make him rise to the challenge to make a serious mark on history. It is not the office that he desires, but the historical impact that drives him. I think this will keep him from just being a deal maker with the Dems. I have never been so moved by a politicians speech as I was yesterday. It reminded me of real patriots like Ben Netanyahu or Lech Walesa, one could see a great leader in the making.

“pretty likely the Seattle one will too. Good luck!”

If he comes to Seattle I’m in. I’ll even drive across the bridge if I have to, but the Republicans live on the Eastside.

I was on one of Newt's teleconferences this evening. He announced a stopover in Kennewick at 11AM the 23rd at the Red Lion Hotel.

He also said there would be at least 2 rallies in the Seattle area, probably on Friday. He said to keep an eye on http://www.newt.org/events for updates on the times/locations of the Westside apppearances, which would be posted "soon".

I think you're right, garjog, that most of the Republicans live on the Eastside, but they're getting more scarce by the day even there.

Yes, the pods have taken over the Eastside too. Obama stickers were on every car up until a couple month ago.

You say Newt may come on Friday. Dang. I have to be in Oregon.

His townhall speech yesterday at Oral Roberts U. was terrific. I can not understand how anybody could hear him speak and not vote for him.

It baffles us all except for the fact that though people might hear him they aren't listening to what he is saying...so in other words they're oblivious to the state of our economy and what it will take in Washington to change the trajectory we're on.

Santorum is a good looking man and breaths volumes of "feel good" platitudes which many people want to hear. Social issues aren't going to mean squat without the ability to handle the real tough issues facing this country...and Santorum is a far cry from having the ability or the comprehension of what this will entail.....his talking points reveal this as much...as does his inability to take the heat without spouting off or loosing his composure.

Newt on the other hand has a completely FIRM grasp at what is ahead...is fully equipped to meet the challenges....is committed to the American people in bringing about the changes which MUST take place....and the experience and know how to get it done without the learning curves, and there will be more than one, of all the other candidates.

Newt's already done the job once... and that with having to work with Clinton and other democrats opposing him...he brought them together and got it done!

Now imagine if he has a majority in the house and the senate...what manner of things can he accomplish!

Go Newt GO GO GO!!!!
