Woman Was Pushing Child In A Carriage When She Was Hit
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said Tuesday afternoon that a bullet that punctured a woman's right calf in Downtown El Paso Tuesday morning is believed to have come from Mexico.
Police said a 48-year-old woman was shopping on Overland near Oregon when her leg was hit by a bullet just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
A shootout happened at the same time in Juarez as when the woman was hit with the bullet.
Guillen Middle School, Aoy Elementary and Hart Elementary were put on lockdown from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
"We do take this extremely seriously," El Paso Mayor John Cook said. "This is another difficulty for El Paso and the border region when we're trying to highlight how safe our community is. This is still a great place to live."
El Paso Sheriff's Office Commander Gomecindo Lopez called the shooting "highly disturbing."
This is not the first time that a bullet from Mexico has been fired into El Paso.
A bullet struck Bell Hall on the UTEP campus on the evening of Aug. 21, 2010. Nobody was injured and UTEP Police believe the bullet may have been related to a shootout in Juarez, Mexico that occurred at the same time. The shooting resulted in the temporary closure of Paisano Drive from Executive Center to Santa Fe Street in El Paso. One person was killed in the shootout in Juarez. There were no reported injures in El Paso.
At about 5 p.m. June 29, 2010 a bullet traveled from a shootout in Juarez through a ninth floor window of El Paso City Hall, then through an interior wall, before striking a picture frame and stopping. Further investigation revealed that the north and south stucco walls of City Hall were struck by an additional six rounds at varying heights on the walls. El Paso City Hall did not appear to be the specific target of the rounds. City employees were inside City Hall during the incident. There were no reported injuries in El Paso from the incident.
I am sure Holder’s DOJ will be able to track the weapon.
Send the bullet, with appropriate label, to Napolitano.
She who swears the border is safer than it’s ever been...
And the head of HOMELAND SECURITY.
Mexican bullets...striking the targets that American bullets won’t strike...
An illegal bullet sneaking across the border..........deport that bullet now!..............
Apparently it was a Juarez police bullet fired at a car thief.
I was in El Paso yesterday- nowhere near where this happened, but funny thing is we were listening to El Paso radio station and I had no idea until a neighbor called to see if I was there and I read it this morning on FR.
Looks like it was.
Let’s be careful out there!
Did they ever explain how bullets from Juarez could hit both the north and south walls of City Hall?
When do we put the “No More Bullets!” billboard up?
Time to lock down the UTEP campus.... again. Why anyone would send their kid there is beyond me.
Was thinking the same kinda thing...Since they put up that huge sign of theres visible to our side of the border...
“Stop Shooting at us!!!”
I might even add...
“We might start shooting back!”
Of course that would all have to be translated into Spanish to have the right effect...If any...
As opposed to Virginia Tech?
BW Ping: Third cross-border “stray-bullet” incident in less than a year.
El Paso mayor John Cook:
“”People get struck by lightning, too, and that doesn’t make us stay indoors when there is a rainstorm,” he said. “It is very unfortunate that this happened. Fortunately, the woman was not seriously hurt. That is a blessing.”
If you look at the map at the link in #17, you will see that the border is at an angle so depending where they came from, shots could hit both sides.
How many more acts of war can Mexico commit before we formally declare war on that turd-world place and remove its corrupt government???
If I were President I would make that a top priority day one.
So much for buying tickets to the Sun Bowl
