(High-tech) Drive-In Theater Coming to Fort Worth

Get ready for some retro entertainment because the drive-in theater is returning to Cowtown.

The Tarrant Regional Water District gave Coyote Theaters the go ahead Tuesday to develop a drive-in theater along the Trinity River just south of La Grave Field.

"We are producing the first urban drive-in right now in the U.S.," said J.D. Granger Trinity River Development Director.

It’ll have digital projectors and ways to listen through your car or smart phones. The tech will allow it to be the first drive-in in the country to offer first run movies simultaneously in both English and Spanish.

There will also be more than one way to watch movies on the four screens.

"We’re going to have cabanas where you can watch from cabanas instead of your car. There’s ways to watch if you were going to ride your bike or in Fort Worth’s case ride your horse," said Coyote Theaters CEO Brady Wood.

Drive-ins were great fun. Even enjoyed going with mom and dad and my siblings.

Then I got into "necking age"....It was a hard choice...movie?? neck?? movie?? neck??

Damn, I really liked movies...

Still have the drive-in speaker, from Route 4 Paramus NJ, when I forgot to remove it from my window. Distracted by my hot date.

If you’re living in America and don’t do English, then you should be working on either learning our language
or leaving...not going to a bi-lingual drive-in movie.

First drive-in movie I ever saw? Blue Lagoon. :)

I think this a great idea. I HATE sitting in movie theaters next to people who refuse to shut up or are coughing/sneezing on me. Now I can sit in the car with my family in our own little cocoon and not worry about that stuff.

I just called the first ex and asked her how many movies we went to before we got married. She didn't know (either), but almost every Saturday night for about a year and half.

I asked her if she could recall the name of ANY of the movies we attended.

LOL! She couldn't either.

Bah-humbug!

Me gusta!

I’m learning Spanish. If I ever become fluent, I’ll go see a movie in Spanish just because I freakin’ can!

Expand your horizons, FRiend. This is a good thing.

I have no idea why there are not more drive-ins today. I never understood why they died out.

Oh my gosh...That's a hard one because my day always had free passes to the Palace and there was a little theatre not too far away.

My first "necking one" was Butterfield Eight. Then Physcho....because I remember covering my head with the pillow.

With my mom and dad?? Hmmmm...Say 1954...

You were a very naughty, very lucky man. :) Do you remember the 1st drive-in movie you ever saw?

(I can’t believe you’re on speaking terms with the ex. Good for you.)

Couldn't be sure but one of the first I remember watching the whole way through was Cat Ballou.

It's been over 20 years since she became my ex, and we have kids together. Mainly, we see each other at funerals. ;)

I don't remember the first movie I saw at a drive in. I'm pretty sure it was a Disney. Dad took us to the drive in about twice a year, back before I was a teen-ager.

We'd also go to the A&W for a float. The great old days.
