New Haven, Mo. - Last night at approximately 7:17 p.m., deputies responded to the 3000 block of Kaiser Hill Road for a possible burglary in progress. The reporting party stated that he observed two white males, one wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and the second white male wearing a T-shirt.
The two suspects were trying to break in through the basement. The reporting party grabbed a handgun and confronted the subjects. The victim stated that the subjects charged toward him but then ran towards the nearby woods. It appears the suspects were unable to make entry in to the residence.
When deputies arrived they immediately began checking the area where the suspects had fled. They also began checking nearby residences as well.
Sheriff Gary Toelke said, When incidences like this occur we have residences request deputies to check their house and additional structures on their property to be sure the suspects were not hiding near by.
At approximately 9:10 p.m., the Sheriffs Office received another call from the residences. The reporting party had gone into a barn located on the property to check on his horses.
When he entered the building, the subject wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, attacked him, knocking him to the ground. After a brief scuffle the subjects again fled towards the wooded area. The victim stated he had fired several rounds and believes he may have hit one of the subjects.

The Sheriffs Office Emergency Response Team was dispatched to help search the area. St. Louis County Police also aided in the search with their helicopter, which is equipped with an infrared device or Flir that is able to spot any type of heat source. This advanced technology allows agencies to cover a large area and at times easily locate suspects attempting to flee officers.
However, the suspects were not able to be located during the search. The Sheriffs office continues to investigate last nights robbery attempt.
Anyone who may have information as to possible suspects or who may have witnessed the subjects in the area is requested to contact the Franklin County Sheriffs Office at 636-583-2560. Callers can remain anonymous if they request.
In the last year, I've had a neighbor report a prowler, and when the cop showed up, I asked him about the situation, and he suggested that I check my property. So the fat guy with the body armor followed me through my outbuilding/yards.
The other occasion was in a different jurisdiction on a commercial property that I'd had a trespass call about. I snagged a cop that was radaring traffic and he also followed me through the building as I opened doors and cleared the building (unarmed, because it didn't make the cops feel comfortable for me to be armed).
Meh... Noise? I'll go check. Get shot with a cop following you or get shot alone is getting shot.
