But there is one way to stymie the web giant's attempts to build a permanent profile of you that could include personal information including age, gender, locality and even sexuality. From March 1, you won't be able to opt out of the new policy, which has been criticised by privacy campaigners who have filed a complaint to U.S. regulators. But before that date you can delete your browsing history and,

I've noticed that if I try to Google industrial products Google takes me to mostly a bunch of Chinese web sites instead of domestic suppliers too. I had already decided to dump google over that alone.

“I actually know a male lesbian.”

Actually, I’m a lesbian, trapped in a man’s body.

Add Youtube on to that.

Tracking companies are now using “super” cookies that cleanup software may have no effect upon.

If you’re interested on what’s going in and out of your computer when you browse, install a program called “fiddler.” It’s a web debugging tool.

You’ll be shocked.

No, it means they can only track you by means of the IP address your ISP assigns to your computer. It would take legal action to get your name from the ISP, but that wouldn’t stop Google from, for example, targeting you with ads that reflect the browsing history from that PC. So if Junior Googles swimsuit models, maybe the next time Mom tries to download a recipe, she’ll get a bikini ad alongside.

I keep getting ads for single men and revealing clothing whenever I check my email. I'm pretty sure that neither type of ad reflects my browsing history.

It won’t let me do it. It keeps asking my for my password, then doesn’t take it!

You tube as well. I saw a disclaimer yesterday regarding the “new privacy rules”.

If you’ve been to Google, you have an account from what I understand. You just have to create a password to access it and change settings.

How does that work? I've never been given an account name. I just use the Google search engine.

Same here, but in the upper right hand of the page is my email address with a drop down box that leads to my account.

You’ve probably given google info without knowing it. They’ve bought many many companies through the years. From YouTube to Motorola Mobility to Zagat restaurant reviews, it’s nearly impossible to have been on the web for a few years and not had one of your websites bought by the goog.

It doesn’t show an e-mail account for me. Just says: “sign in”.
