Rick Santorum Winning More Support From Republican Women [Romney 61%, Santorum 57%, Gingrich 37%]

Rick Santorum Winning More Support From Republican Women

By Amy Gardner, February 23

Over the past several weeks, Republicans have watched squeamishly as presidential contender Rick Santorum has waded into multiple controversies that risk alienating half the 2012 electorate: women.

But in fact, Santorum has grown more popular among women while talking about his opposition to abortion, his disapproval of birth control and his view that the federal government shouldn’t pay for prenatal screenings. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows not only that Santorum is doing better among GOP women than he was a few weeks ago, but also that he is less unpopular — and also less well known — among Democratic and independent women than his Republican rivals Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Voters and political strategists alike say Santorum’s rise has less to do with his views on these issues than on his ability to relate to the daily struggles of the middle class.

Nonetheless, the former senator from Pennsylvania and the other Republican candidates remain largely untested by the dynamics of a general election in which independent and Democratic women are expected to play a deciding role.

All of the campaigns — and the White House — are paying close attention to this major voting bloc, exploring how women feel about hot-button social issues and economic matters. Santorum’s views on health issues do not appear to have hurt in the primary. Yet he and the other Republican candidates are acutely aware of the danger those issues could present this fall.

Gingrich suffers from very low support among women voters: Just before the FL primary, a Florida poll showed Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were neck and neck among male voters, but Romney was leading Gingrich by 19 points among women. This appears to be a permanent deficit even on a national basis that makes him un-electable to say nothing of the $1.6m FreddieMac albatross around his neck, and of establishing permanent moon based colonies at a time of $16T national debt.

Now, Obama is hinting that Gingrich is making phony-election year promises of buying gas at $2.50 gallon. Santorum, as Rush and Levin has said, is the last true standing conservative and most important, he is electable. In the recent Gallup he trails Obama by 8 points and all this, including the trifecta win, on a shoe-string budget. At this point its time to wake up and smell the coffee. its a two man race: Santorum and Romney.

You’d rather have government insured FreddieMac hand out $1.6m to Gingrich the lobbyist. Oh, I forgot, it was for historical research.

Santorum, as Rush and Levin has said, is the last true standing conservative

I don't listen to Levin but Rush never said that. If anyone thinks Santorum is a conservative in the smaller government sense, they are full of crap.

1.6 mil over 6 years, with a staff of I would guess 25 a raking aint in.

I would expect a contract like that to keep a dozen people employed for a year.

I see you constantly melting down on Santorum threads on what a loser this guy is with absolutely nothing empirical to add.

Rick is still strong in the polls even though Milt is slamming him just as hard as Newt got it. He is actually pulling away in states that he isn’t even campaigning in yet. He has built a 30 point lead in his home state of PA when Newt is only 5 points ahead of him in his home state GA and Rick is beating Milt in his home state. He is moving up with women voters. Winning the old Reagan Rats, does better than all the others in exit polling with the Tea Party. You just don’t want to admit to yourself that a values guy with an economic message might be a winner.

Well, I guess the Establishment GOP and Romney’s millions of negative ads had nothing to do with Florida. If it is a “permanent deficit” it is a contrived one. A contrived one that Santorum will also have to deal with.

get a good feeling about Rick and like him, more-so

You just showed the type he draws - those with liberal leanings. INTO FEELINGS and LOOKS!! His supporters are so deceived - they look to see where the zipper is and if his hair is combed - to see if he is qualified to be president. And not one look at all his baggage!

You just can't make this stuff up - THE DESPERATION of some as they are hell bent to bring our country down.

But polls were just fantastic instruments of truth during Newts short stay at the top. Weren't they?

-> Santorum, as Rush and Levin has said, is the last true standing conservative and most important, he is electable.

And Rush says he wasn't backing a certain candidate ha. No wonder many conservatives are disappointed, very confused and about to leave the primary process when they see persons we admire continue to throw out so much bull-crap for us to deal with. Who are they trying to convince. Rick is another Washington insider; big program spender. Like I said, Rush is saving his family values base (nothing more). He already said he would accept Romney, the socialized heath care liberal. yes, it's confusing though understandable why people cannot unite towards one conservative candidate. Some of the Rushbots do what he says to do; the independent thinkers are seeing it through reality and don't want to be forced with Mitt or Rick.

I know a guy that fancy’s himself as a dyed in the wool Christian, and he loves some Santorum, but he loves prowling round chasing pussy even more. Walking talking conflictions.

I aint voting for hypocrite sanctimonious MOFOs no way.

Sorry.

At least Newt admits he is human, and he is way sharper intellectually.
