Concerned Scientists Reply on Global Warming
Wall Street Journal online ^ | Feb 21, 2012 | Claude Allegre, et al

Posted on 02/23/2012 9:58:59 PM PST by Rocky

Editor's Note: The authors of the following letter, listed below, are also the signatories of "No Need to Panic About Global Warming," an op-ed that appeared in the Journal on January 27. This letter responds to criticisms of the op-ed made by Kevin Trenberth and 37 others in a letter published Feb. 1, and by Robert Byer of the American Physical Society in a letter published Feb. 6. ---------

We agree with Mr. Trenberth et al. that expertise is important in medical care, as it is in any matter of importance to humans or our environment. Consider then that by eliminating fossil fuels, the recipient of medical care (all of us) is being asked to submit to what amounts to an economic heart transplant. According to most patient bills of rights, the patient has a strong say in the treatment decision. Natural questions from the patient are whether a heart transplant is really needed, and how successful the diagnostic team has been in the past.

A great rebuttal. Another nail in the coffin of AGW. Soon, all that will be left is (hopefully) punishment of the guilty in academia, journalism, government, and NGOs.

I read a report that the cold wave in Europe this winter was actually caused by melting of the Arctic Ocean causing changes in cold weather patterns bringing the big chill down toward the south. This is so complicated.

The ‘weather’, or ‘climate patterns’ have always changed.
They always will.
Nothing we can do will ever stop them from changing.
You either adapt (and survive), or you don’t (and die).

In the meantime, life will continue on. Even in places with the most severe weather, life continues.

Penguins even make it a habit to trek 70 miles , with no food, to the coldest and most ‘uninhabitable’ place on the planet, just to give birth.

Surely humans can deal with the ‘average’ temperature changing by 1 or 2 degrees per century.

What will likely kill us all is the idiots who lust for power and wealth beyond need. THAT is the real problem.

It’s not complicated in Seattle: If the rain is warmish, it’s summer. If the rain is cold, it is winter. If you’re not sure, its either spring or fall. If the rain is coming down in big white flakes, jump in the car and spin your tires, because you don’t know how to drive in the snow.

If looking for more nails for the AGW coffin, the following should be the burial vault, crypt, sarcophagi, sepulcher all wrapped into one and carefully wrapped up and mummified and buried in a massive pyramid.

Examining the projections for cycle 25 sunspots, spanning over the next few decades, we are headed to much colder temperatures to rival anything seen in hundreds of years (covering the Dalton minimum, and rivaling the Maunder minimum of the 1600's). Note how the PEAK of cycle 25, still a decade away, is expected not not even reach the LOW of the "hot cycles" from the warm periods (cycles 20 thru 23). I hate to be the Anti-AGW alarmist, but lack of almost ANY sunspots means frigid temperatures. We are going to need to burn, and as inefficiently and expansive-carbon-footprintish as possible, all our fossil fuels to stave off the next ice age to grow our crops.

That’s a truly scary graph. The AGW crowd (sun spot deniers) will look really silly campaigning for cap and trade from their igloos.

LOL. Are you a weatherman in Seattle?

But why don’t the good Democrats in the state of Washington pass a law against snow in Seattle? The answer to every problem is more government control, is it not?

An even scarier graph is when one looks at the ice-core data going back hundreds of thousands of years. Shows the cylical patterns and fairly rapid plunge into true, mile-ice-over-Seattle, ice ages. And we are past due. (Based on the 3 or 4 earlier cycles).

And the interglacial warm periods are IIRC about 10,000 years long. And not so amazing, “civilization” began about 10,000 years ago.

Here’s a short webpage with several easy graphs from the ice-core data. The first one shows the infamous “hockey-stick”. They then go back in time for longer and longer periods to show just how limited in range and extent the “blade” is on the hockey stick.

An excellent link. Thanks for including that. For Algore, it’s an inconvenient truth.

And the ice ages last much longer than the intergalacial warming periods. Costa Rica is looking pretty good right now.

What liberal organizations like Union of Concerned Scientists are just starting to realize is that if the left’s own global warming hysteria is to be accepted as official energy policy, we would need an immediate crash program to build hundreds of nuclear reactors. The priority would be on replacing all coal-fired generating capacity.

And get this :

************************************EXCERPT**************************************

The Trenberth letter tells us that "computer models have recently shown that during periods when there is a smaller increase of surface temperatures, warming is occurring elsewhere in the climate system,

typically in the deep ocean."

I think we have a thread where that theory gets annihilated..

I am speculating that the "Watts Up With That?" website may be under attack....getting error messages when trying to access.

There was a thread late last night about the WUWT site showing a paper trail of EPA grants to some guy. And then reports of those documents being erased from the site (or the University’s site, etc.) Somehow the grants may be illegal, etc.

You may be right that they are under attack.
