COLONIA JUAREZ - In the craggy desert of northern Mexico, U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's relatives turned an arid valley into lush agricultural land and prospered after being chased from the United States for their Mormon beliefs.
They suffered years of hardship, living in dirt dugouts and overturned wagons, but then went on to build sturdy homes and a thriving school, develop irrigation canals and dams, raise herds of cattle, and plant vast peach and apple orchards from the punishing landscape.
The story of the early Mormon settlers in Mexico, who fled the threat of arrest in the United States for practicing polygamy, is embodied by Mitt Romney's great-grandfather Miles P. Romney, who crossed south of the border in the late 1880s.
His offspring still live in Mormon enclaves in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua around 200 miles from the border and near the house where Mitt's father, George Romney, was born.

Miles P. Romney was pursued by U.S. marshals after polygamy, or "plural marriage" as it is known in the Mormon religion, was outlawed in 1882.
He set up camp in Mexico with three wives and more than a dozen children.

He must have hit puberty very early and had sex before he died, or he couldn't have been one of Mitt's ancestors as the caption states.
So, would Mica Rosenberg want to be some Mormon's fifth wife? Romney's ancestors fled to Mexico not because of unfair discrimination, but because they didn't want to give up their harems and live like Americans.
What, we should criticize polygamists? Sorry, but you have to draw the line somewhere, if you have any sense of decency.

Defending a cult’s anti-Christian conversion efforts while disguised in the cloak of being a Christian denomination, and defending polygamy, will definitely trigger responses from conservatives.

Like them or not, nobody is responsible for the behavior of their parents, grandparents or other relatives. That goes for Romney as much as any other.

This isn’t history, it is propaganda, and I do not buy that the Romney’s were ever poor, I think that as Mormon royalty they have always been well off.
This is a glowing description from the article, evidently the Mexican Dictator was superior to us evil, oppressive Americans with our regressive view of Christianity and marriage.

Bishop Romney is in a different situation.
Mitt Romney is a member of the Royal Family, the Romney’s existence is based on their role as Mormon leadership.
The Romneys came here in the first place to serve Joseph smith, they shipped over in 1841 for that purpose and have never wavered from that single minded purpose, they operate out of the church as their base, they only come out into the world for, business, and politics.
Just as his father was a Bishop, then a Stake President, so is Mitt, just as his Bishop father was hoped to be the fulfillment of the White horse Prophecy with his attempt to rule the GOP as President of the United States, so is Bishop Mitt.
The Romney generations are a continuance of a a Royal line within Mormonism.
Miles Romney had ONE wife (marriage is between one man and one woman, remember?) and four CONCUBINES.
