"'US to announce aerial blockade on Syria'" to provide cover for the thousands of Iranian troops entering Syria on the ground. Must protect the oil by avoiding angering the mullahs: bosses of our bipartisan politicos.

There are a couple Freepers here who you may lure into a fit of verbal apoplexy over your words. They are very proud of their part in the glorious air crusade against Serbia in 99. You are correct when you call it ego inflation for the sociopath in chief and General Narcissism.
My sister in law’s family is about 10 miles behind the Syrian artillery “front line”. They have reported that there are columns of trucks of artillery and personnel. Some of the soldiers do not speak Syrian. They think that the Syrian army are going to take Homs.

All of your questions and points are well taken, by me at least.
I still have doubts about this actually being an order form the CINC, rather a trial balloon released to judge public opinion.
This is a major event and would HAVE to go through Congress because of the possible “going south” options. This is a no win proposition for America, there is no upside.

Would somebody please explain to me what the US interest is here?
It's an election year, we've had three Presidents in a row that like to involve our country in wars that they ostensibly claim are to liberate this group or that group (remember George W. Bush's crap about how Iraqis would view us as liberators, not conquerors?) or that are somehow protecting human rights.
Meanwhile these same three Presidents seemed intent on trampling our rights here...
