Whatever Happened to Ted Turner?
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | 02/29/2012 | Stephen Galloway

Posted on 02/29/2012 8:08:19 AM PST by BJ1

The "Mouth of the South" is no longer as he devotes his time (and $1 billion) to the U.N., jets between 28 homes and four girlfriends, misses Jane Fonda and opens up to THR about Rupert, Jerry and his abuse as a child. Says a friend: "He's definitely changed."

"Isn’t that the thinnest billionaire’s wallet you ever saw?" Ted Turner gloats on a drizzling day in New York. "I’m really proud of it.” our editor recommends Rupert Murdoch 'Is Going to Have to Step Down,' Says Ted Turner (Video) CNN Leads Cable Channels in Whitney Houston Funeral Ratings The Philanthropy Issue: The Industry's Protectors of the Environment, Arts and Education Philanthropy Do's and Don'ts The Roots' Questlove on Philanthropy and Why Our Schools 'Need a Complete Retooling' Philanthropy: Behind the Scenes Photo Shoot

He holds out the wallet, a slender, black, rather unpretentious affair, as this reporter cranes for a closer look, neglecting to mention I’ve never seen a billionaire’s wallet before. It contains Turner’s driver’s license, two credit cards, lists of his appointments for the next couple of days (he doesn’t use e-mail), a few phone numbers and about $1,000 in cash — though what on earth for, he doesn’t say, since he never shops.

The tycoon-turned-philanthropist has removed the wallet from his blazer to show me a printed card with his "11 Voluntary Initiatives," an oddly naive reinvention of the Ten Commandments that he concocted some 15 years ago, including such vows as "I promise to care for Planet Earth and all living things thereon, especially my fellow beings."

With all the money he needs, with all the time he has to devote to his causes, there is a sad man.

I feel bad for the guy. It seems like he isn't the same since Jane left him, but he still cavorts with four women. Self destructive to the end?

I don’t feel sorry for Turner. He SOLD HIS SOUL in his chase for Fonda. He did everything he could to win her. He got her and then she left him. Like wow, a Hollyweird person leaving her spouse! What a concept. Turner is a self inflicted wound. Anything he is suffering is self inflicted. Let him suffer his fate. He brought it upon himself. He is just another Jimmy Carter in his old age. Worthless.

Anytime I hear of Ted Turner I think of Matthew 19:24 “And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Turner was a true visionary when it came to cable. Buffet is very adept at picking stocks. But once either of them opens their yaps outside their field of expertise, they are blithering idiots.

For one, he's raising bison on his Gallatin Valley ranch and serving them at his relatively new restaurant in Bozeman.

I must admit that the bison filet mignon is absolutely fabulous.

“I don’t feel bad for him...I despise him as much as ever.”

While you are despising, save some of it for old Henry Fonda. That POS gave the world two of the most worthless children who ever drew a breath.
