you got it...if only right wingers could be more civil, this kid wouldn’t have gone over the edge.

I wonder if Sarah will ever apologize for any of this?

.22 pistol

This can't be right. We know from all the banglist posters that a 22 pistol has no stopping power.

maybe if the schools had more teachers like this?
From the article....

“A teacher eventually chased the shooter from the school”

This was clearly not the case.

No - it was obviously the fault of lax gun laws. We need to make it illegal to take guns to school. Then this sort of thing won't happen. < /sarcasm>

I’m just stating the obvious: with no schools, there’d be no school shootings.

Home schooling, and home shooting?

Seriously, those who really want to homeschool their kids usually do a good job of it. But would kids from broken families or with drugged-out parents really do better staying at home?

Our schools have gone down hill for the past 60 years, but I don't think the solution is to abolish all schools. We need to get the Federal government out of it, abolish the Department of Education, end the teachers' unions, and go back to some sort of local control and funding, with maybe some small-scale state supervision.

RE :” Yeah...that’s the ticket...another really, really, really, really, TOUGH gun law would’ve stopped this cold in its tracks... It’s worked so well before...

In Maryland Dem gov O Malley took a few constructive steps:
1) You can no longer execute murderers as that would be inhuman as well as violate the 'law of fairness'.
2) After ‘serving their time’ murderers are allowed to vote again, not surprisingly they been voting democrat,

Democrats :” Execute the guns before they force another innocent person to kill

Although there are some good/interesting ideas here for development of teaching strategy, this would hardly replace the geographic school as we know it.

Trust me, as an educator, I definitely favor a complete reform of the educational system we presently have in place.

So this kid had, at the very least, one psychotic parent (the dad) and probably grew up watching the father and mother beat the hell out of each other. Who knows what was spinning around in his head or what set this off.

Sad all around...

Sincere prayers up for the families of the kids who were killed. There’s nothing in the world anyone can say to comfort those folks.

Bring up a child in the way he should go...

Sometimes they just go bad I had a friend with two kids - raised more or less the same way. One turned out pretty decent. The other was criminal starting in his preteen years. Started stealing stuff before he turned 12. Was into drugs before he got out of middle school. I'm guessing the kid is either dead or in jail by now.

Yes, that too. However, there are MANY things that are needed. When a society loses its understanding of the sacredness of life, traditional loving families, etc., such outcomes are the inevitable result.

(We could study how a history of various government policies have undermined the traditional family here in the United States as well.)

Pray for our nation.

The school system (as I recall my HS experience) is worthless.

I knew how to read and write when I got there and they sat on me for 4 years until I could go to college. They taught me nothing in that 4 years but certainly DID mess with my head.

In the end, I found out that I graduated 3rd out of 253 students and they were on my case daily and almost hourly. I was so glad to get out of there. It took years for me to get right.

Confiscate guns? Then he would have likely made a home made bomb, and killed 50-100 kids.

Here is a concept.....some people are just crazy!

Sounds like neither of this kid’s parents were around as he was raised by the grandfather’s neighbors?

The media will focus on guns but not personal responsibility or BAD PARENTING.

“And replace it with WHAT?”

Private schools and home schools, which have far better outcomes, anyway.

“...The media will focus on guns but not personal responsibility or BAD PARENTING...”

Yes, that’s a given.

It’s what they do, after all.

As I said...they wait around for the moment to dance in innocent blood.

They generally exist to indoctrinate you as a good fiscal and social liberal.

“The real question to be asking is why now? Schools and guns were there in the 50s-60s-70s. What’s changed?”

That’s the $64,000 question! We used to have .22 rifles in our cars in the student parking lot in the 1950’s here in Northern California, no one was concerned, and no one got shot. Now, if the school finds a gun in your car, you are off to jail. Simpletons running the schools give you stupid answers, and they do so after listening to their “lawyers.”
