"Uncommitted" Dick Morris - a deadlocked convention makes the case to back Mitt Romney
Live Dash Transcript ^ | March 1, 2012 | Dick Morris on Greta Van Susteren

Posted on 03/02/2012 1:00:48 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

March 1, 2012 Livedash transcript [only place I could find it]: Dick Morris followed Greta Van Susteren's interview with Newt Gingrich -- Morris transcript begins at 00:12:28 (it's rough and Greta chimes in but it's mostly Morris). Emphasis mine.

[snip]

00:13:24 The thing that I am focused on in michigan, though, and I am very serious about it and grossly upset by it is that romney won michigan by a huge margin among the republicans and the independents.

00:13:37 It was only that 1 voter out of 10 was a democrat and the democrats voted for santorum 3-1.

00:13:45 There were 100,000 democrats who came out to the polls in michigan who backed santorum.

00:13:52 That doesn't happen just by accident that.

00:13:54 Happens because they were pulled out by the uaw and the democratic party.

00:13:58 I will tell you, greta i am not for romney and I am not for santorum and I am not for gingrich.

00:14:05 I am uncommitted.

00:14:06 But I will be darned with barack obama is going to tell me who the republican candidate ought to be.

00:14:11 If he says that he is for santorum, which is effectively what he did because he's easy to beat, I think we should all take account of that.

00:14:20 the only thing I will say in senator santorum's defense is that he got cheated in iowa.

00:14:28 He got iowa, but he didn't get to do the victory speech.

00:14:32 I guess, you know, while there may have been mischief as you suggest, democrats voting for santorum, I think it's disheartening to sort of, not a big deal, one delegate.

00:14:43 But when you work your heart out and you think you got cheated and even mike cox, a romney supporter, said he thought it wasn't fair to santorum.

00:14:53 One delegate, but it's -- you know, it's not fun.

00:14:56 >> It's a more important issue here.

00:14:59 These proportional representation primary, 54% of the delegates are chosen by proportional representation.

00:15:08 46 Are winner take all.

00:15:09 If santorum loses almost every single primary in the north, midwest and the west and gingrich and he divide up the south, which I think will probably happen, I think gingrich will win georgia and santorum will win tennessee and oklahoma and romney will win all the other states.

00:15:26 But if that happens and romney loses one or two of those northern states, this thing becomes deadlocked.

00:15:33 And we go to the convention with romney with 100 votes short, 1100 delegates and santorum 400, gingrich, 4 hundred and ron paul, 2 hundred and we have to wait for september 1 for a nominee.

00:15:47 That would be a catastrophe if he felt the best argument I have ever seen for voting for romney -- and I am because I like santorum's issue positions -- it is clear that barack obama and the democratic party are dying to run against santorum and scared to death against running against romney.

00:16:05 That's very persuasive to me.

00:16:08 is there any way that we have said the speaker of the house, newt gingrich if he wins georgia, does he have wind in his sail?

00:16:18 Is he back in the game?

00:16:20 He hasn't won since south carolina.

00:16:22 >> He is back in the game because there is a real chance of this whole thing deadlocking and becoming destructive to the republican party.

00:16:28 If he wins georgia, I think he will probably win mississippi.

00:16:32 He will probably win alabama.

00:16:34 He has a decent shot in louisiana.

00:16:36 He has south carolina.

00:16:38 He might do very well in north carolina.

00:16:41 And that might give him 300 delegates, not enough to win.

00:16:45 You need 1144.

00:16:46 But if he gets 3 hundred and paul gets 2 hundred and santorum gets 400, they could block romney from a scmairjt that could kill our chances because we will be fighting over this darn thing until september 1.

00:17:00 The convention is late this year.

00:17:03 It's august 27.

00:17:04 And if we don't get a nominee by may or june, we can kiss our chances against obama goodbye. .....

And that might give [Newt] 300 delegates, not enough to win.

Morris doesn't mention California (172) June 5th, or Texas (155) now scheduled for May 29th...

Primary schedule, states' rules, delegates and rules for each state's delegates at the national convention

GO NEWT!!

Typical Fox News in the tank for Willard...

...gonna be a great campaign if Mendacious Mitt gets the nomination:

“OUR CANDIDATE IS A PERFIDIOUS FLIP-FLOPPING MEAN-SPIRITED CRYPTO-COMMIE SOB WITH ALL THE CHARM, GRACE AND CHARISMA OF RAT DUNG..............but he is better than Obama.”

Yeah, that will get us to the polls in droves.

This race is shaping up to be the worst presidential election in my lifetime. Barack Obama versus Mitt Romney? That’s like having to choose between eating a dog turd sandwhich or a cat turd sandwhich. It’s a turd sandwhich either way.

I am of the Opinion that Tn is still winnable for Newt.

Santorum can bolster all he Wants about GA. With the 16-14 instead of 15-15 in MI(yeah I know it stinks), Santorum has to have OH.

Last night Santorum was complaining about limited Staffing and funding.

Newt has March 3,4,5 three days. He needs to visit Tenn, Alaska, Oklahoma or Idaho have several events in each and then have a big rally somewhere in Ga Monday night. He could easily walk away with 150 Delegates on Super Tuesday alone.

Same applies to Santorum but would do the states slightly different.

This is the Pre-Season If either wants to beat Obammy in the GE this will be the commentment required.

At least they gets free press for his effort.

I believe Morris is attempting to sway the likelihood that more and more states/voters will start turning away from Romney (the party elites’ pick).

I think Morris is trying to maintain the illusion of his own relevance in order to keep getting air time on Bill O’Reilly. He wants to be able to say "I told you so" IOW.

That is priceless. It is also the reason I began to back Newt......he is the one I want standing across the debate stage from President Obama. Period. While Obama waxes lyrically, Newt cuts to the point, and would not hesitate to disembowel each of the President’s policies for all to see. I fear that Obama may not agree to debate him, or would insist on such stringent regulations of the debate as to neuter Newt’s effectiveness. For all of Obama’s vaunted intellect, I have never seen it, and he would never be able to counter Newt’s quick grasp of facts. He needs to be our candidate.

Toe Jam Dick saying the Democrats fear Romney and that Democrats came out for Santorum in Michigan is pimping for Mitt by trying to turn off the conservative base on Santorum.

First of all, where did this “100,000 Dems for Rick” come from?—oh yeah, liberal MSM exit polls run by the DNC.
And if the ratio of 3-1 Dems for Santorum versus Romney is true and like hell any of it is—then Romney got at least 33,000 Dem votes but we don't hear anything about THAT!

But Newt people are so bummed out they swallow and spread Mitt's and the Dems'’s anti-Santorum lies to the hilt.

I don’t buy Morris’ logic and daresay he is projecting what the media has been doing since last year; foisting Romney on us by decree - same as they did McCain.

And if it’s Romney vs Obama - we will have a repeat of ‘08.

The fact these morons keep telling us that Obama is afraid of running against Romney and all the others are sure losers to Obama, tells me that the wannabe kingmakers for Obama WANT Romney.

There is no wisdom left it seems among either our candidates or the electorate. We’ve been given over into strong delusion, and we would rather believe the lies than the hard truths.

As Jefferson said: “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is Just, and His Justice will not sleep forever”.

[Thanks to the Republican presidential race, political correctness has taken a beating it won't recover from.] -- I Stand Corrected ...."My overall sense remains one of exultation. These candidates may or may not defeat Obama, but two of them, Gingrich and Santorum, have accomplished a far more significant victory, one which may hold greater ramifications. Between them they are dismantling, piece by brittle piece, the structure of political correctness that has stifled our debate in this society for decades. For the first time, we have politicians who can gab without first kissing the Blarney Stone.".....

I think Dick Morris is spinning for Mitt with his slam on Rick and the MI voters. Just as he’s spinning for Mitt with his alarm about Newt causing trouble and getting O elected; it’s Morris’ bid to assist the bruised and bleeding Mitt.

Don’t be so quick to slam Newt supporters HR.
